This is going to be a tough one. We will see how OliMo lines us up vs a lefty.

Last year our lineup was death on lefties. It would be good to manage some offense in this one too, to get a much needed sweep.

    Lineup?
Edman (2B) likely leads off and Gorman sits vs the lefty.
    Goldy
Contreras (DH or LF), I’d choose LF
    Arenado
    Carlson
    PDJ
    Nootbaar
Yepez vs lefties if you’re going to play him at all (DH or LF). I’d choose DH.

The pitcher we are facing has reverse splits, he has been lights out vs righties. We will see if the analytic room influences Oil’s standard lineup above.

There is a case to be made for Donovan in LF and Contreras at DH again, once you factor in the LF D of Contreras or Yepez and the starters splits.

I’d probably play the same lineup except Gorman sits with Edman playing 2nd. The order could be adjusted some with Edman maybe leading off, but it should mostly be the same.

Taking a gander at the out-of-town scoreboard this fine Wednesday!

Colorado and Pittsburgh 0-0 in the 1st at Forbes Field.

Mets and Reds 0-0 in the 1st at Riverfront Stadium.

Doyers and Brewers 0-0 in the 1st at Miller Park.

I would go this way with the lineup, but know that management won’t do it:

    Edman, 2b
    Carlson, cf
    Goldy, 1b
    Arenado,3b
    Contreras, DH
    Yepez, lf
    DeJong, ss
    Nootbaar, rf
    Knizner, c

One thing I like about this setup, is when the Cubs go to a righty, you have Edman and Carlson switching around in front of Goldy. Also there is Noot at 8, so at some point you could have 3 of the 4 hitters in front of Goldy batting from the left side against a righty.

I would be okay switching Knizner and Noot in the order, but like this arrangement much better than hitting Goldy at 2 against a southpaw.

Taking an updated gander at the out-of-town scoreboard:

The Doyers lead the Brewers 8-1 in the bottom of the 6th at Miller Park.

The Rockies lead the Pirates 4-3 in the last of the 8th at Three Rivers Stadium.

The Mets and Reds are tied 0-0 in the top of the 1st at Riverfront Stadium.

p.s. with any luck we could only be seven (7) games out of 1st place after tonight!

The central division is so bad. Even with the horrible start the Cardinals are the best team in the division.

I agree, Oliver, but we’re both proven wrong by the simple W/L records which are always the definitive measurement of who’s best. Let’s hope the simple arithmetic changes in a manner that bolsters our case.

COL holds on for a 4-3 W at PIT. The Pirates had the tying and winning run at 2B and 3B in the home half 9th, but couldn’t break through. MIL batting in the home half of the 9th trailing LA by 7 runs.

Hey, when you’re 8 back, you kneel at the scoreboard and chant…

I’m almost sold on the idea that we stink less than everyone else in the division. We could parlay that into a fun time over the next few months.

Yeah, we really could, Bling. Although it’s extremely rough on the primary pump, it seems like those seasons that involved what seemed like endless and everyday 7th games to stay alive were the ones I look back on as not only the most memorable, but also the most fun. I’d have to say that after the off day following tonight’s game at Wrigley, the grueling stretch of 19 straight games without a breather are going to make or break the ’23 season. If there’s still daylight after those 19 games, I like our chances to sneak in there.

I took a look at Steele’s game logs from his 7 GS’s and he could well be 7-0 at this juncture. I also noticed that in his 5 winning decisions, all 5 of those games were lopsided victories for the Cubs with an average margin of victory of about 6.5 runs. The only games that looked like he was protecting a slim lead, were the 2 in which he received a no-decision. Maybe Monte can keep the Cubbie bats quiet and Steele will have to work to quite a few Redbird hitters in situations which exert a little pressure.

The lineup we figured would be out there. I like my set up better because as I mentioned, I like Edman-Carlson ahead of Goldschmidt more than Knizner-Edman.

What did everybody have for din-din today?

Yesterday I ate my din-din at the Snitz restaurant down in Jasper. I had the Ground Sirloin (medium well), German Fries, Green Beans, and a Coke. And a piece of Strawberry Cheesecake for dessert.

Seems like posters are letting din-din slide nowadays. I am going to try and keep it going. Tomorrow will be the weekly trip to the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant.

The Redbird manager’s really loading up like he’s supposed to do vs. Steele. I’d almost place Knizner at 8 and have The Nootz in his familiar 9 slot. It’d also feature two consecutive baserunning threats ahead of Goldy. At any rate, it’s good to see the Cardinal manager’s been studying his book…

I am OK with it. Yepez might as well get a chance to take some hacks. I do not understand why it is not Knizner 8th and Nootbaar 9th.

I just have a feeling we are going to rough this guy up. Hang a crooked number on him early.

Heck Rats, we usually don’t eat supper around here until at least 6. I normally have my lunch at around 2 or so. Today it was Nachos made with longhorn cheddar cheese and jalapenos that’ll burn the skin on your hands, along with what they call a mini Southwest chicken burrito bought from the prepared deli section at Dierberg’s. I washed all that down with an ice cold Coca Cola…Or two. I don’t know what Mrs. 1TD has planned for supper, but I’ll report back once I see what she has in mind. If I ask too soon and rush her, there’s a chance I might be having one of those old oven mitts for din-din…Haha!
