Maybe this game will be the end of the funk.

At least Front Row Amy was in attendance last night. Here’s to hoping she’s also in attendance in this one as well..:)

This is Bernie’s take on the O’Neill-gate incident. Quote from article on the Scoops with Danny Mac site.

O’Neill mentioned that after Tuesday’s mishap, saying “I’ve been working a lot on different run form mechanics and stuff here in St. Louis. That puts me in a better position for longevity.”

    That’s the problem.

O’Neill is trying to sort this out.

How does O’Neill establish longevity without creating the perception that he isn’t playing hard?

“Run form mechanics”?? If Tyler thought that one up on his own I’ll eat a pine tar rag. There’s a biomechanics wonk around somewhere, you can bank on it. If guys are going to get in trouble for listening to those goobers there’s going to be trouble. The philosophy includes listening to the goobers and applying it on field, which appears to be what Tyler was trying to do. So now what?

I have been thinking about the same point Bernie made. Like anything in life, one has to find the proper medium.

For example, if you want to stay healthy, running into a wall at full speed is probably a bad risk. On the other hand, running hard to score a decisive run late in the game is probably a good risk.

No offense to Tyler, but if he is worried about getting hurt by just running hard, then he is compromised as a player. Under the current rules, even designated hitters have to run the bases.

He is only 27 years old. How is he going to make it to 37 at this rate?

Maybe he is supposed to decide, in a split second, whether to use the new run mechanics or just go flat out.

Tyler’s thought bubble: Hmmm, there goes the ball toward the outfielder. What inning is it, what is the run differential and how much will our win probability go up if I score and how much will the team’s season be negatively impacted if I pull a hammy? OK, I’ll use run mechanics A instead of B.

    Wonk’s thought bubble: Yes exactly.

    Mo’s thought bubble: excellent

Oli’s thought bubble: Wait, what? Run you idiot.

It is as basic as baseball itself. Know the situation and be ready. If you have to go through all that AFTER the ball is hit, even Usain Bolt would get thrown out.

It is easy to make this more complicated than it really is and to try to pass blame.

If the Cards were 5-2 this thing isn’t nearly as big of a deal.

In my opinion, Marmol still needed to shut his pie hole and deal with it in the clubhouse.

If a player doesn’t feel comfortable going all out then he shouldn’t be on the field. You think Nolan Arenado tries to pace himself? Nope.

If the wonks are telling Tyler to take it easy then I don’t blame Marmol for being hacked off. That sounds like philosophical differences brewing.

Interesting tidbits in here. Supposedly the Cardinals had trade talks with the Marlins and others over the winter regarding O’Neill.

I saw that too. If you read it closely though, no more so about O’Neill than any of the other young outfielders, as far as anyone knows. Basically, we have outfielders and they have pitchers, so there were talks. I would say to Rosenthal, no kidding Sherlock.

My guess the talks were regarding us acquiring Lopez, who ended up going to Minnesota. Rosenthal notes that the talks between the Cards and Marlins could be revived though now that O’Neill’s status seems shaky.

After one week of play our four best pitchers have been VerHagen, Stratton, Thompson, and Naughton. Not exactly how we drew it up.

My goodness…Motter’s hitting higher in the line-up than our prized rookie. At any rate, I’d switch Carlson and Walker, but I’m no line-up whiz-kid like the guy with the pencil.

    I’d switch Carlson and Walker,

Yes, why not. And have the band start playing so the fans don’t panic.

The local hockey team in StL. has been eliminated, but the normal Cardinal Bally station is still broacasting the hockey game this evening and has moved the Cardinal game to something called Bally Extra. We have Bally Extra and I’m now tuned in to the pregame show, but up until exactly 5:30 pm, when I searched on the guide feature of our cable system it told me in no uncertain terms, “no broadcasting scheduled at this time.” It’s not at all unlike they’re jerking you around for the fun of it…That sort of nonsense don’t make 1TD too awfully happy. In any event, at least I’m pretty sure I’ll have some Cardinal action tonight. Hope they can pull out of this 4 game skid.

But we do have a lot of starting pitching depth.

The Phillies just scored three times in the last of the 9th and beat the Reds 3-2 at Veteran’s Stadium.

    1TD,
Here is SW Indiana we actually have “Bally Sports Indiana”. So the Cardinals will get bumped to “extra” for the Blues, like tonight, but also the Pacers. It’s frustrating, but my DirecTV stream guide usually shows it correctly and there’s no difference. Back 12-14 years ago, before everything was HD all the time, I had Spectrum TV and the Cardianls would get bumped off and Spectrum would show it in standard definition on Ch 550, which was normally not used, and a lot of customers didn’t know this and the only reason I did is because my brother worked for them at the time.
