Either would be a really good choice.
December 15, 2022 at 4:20 pm #209259I never thought Bob Carpenter should have left. I always liked him.
December 15, 2022 at 4:38 pm #209262Bob Carpenter is smooth and personable. As is Rooney.
December 15, 2022 at 4:46 pm #209264Radio guys are used to talking non stop, which is annoying on TV.
December 15, 2022 at 5:03 pm #209265Both would be good choices, but I’m not sure if they’re obligated to their current positions at KMOX for Rooney, and whatever network Carpenter works for with the DC team. Carpenter’s 70 years old, but he was good for a few years when he broadcast both Redbird and Blues games here in StL. No question as to Rooney’s talent and enthusiasm for Redbird baseball on the radio broadcasts. If I had to choose one, I think I’d lean towards John Rooney, but he may be perfectly content with his well established position with KMOX. Little fact about Rooney…He called the ’05 WS as a White Sox radio announcer prior to hiring on at KMOX as the Cardinal radio play by play guy in ’06. This gave him the distinction of being the only Big League play by play announcer to have ever called successive WS Championships for two different teams. Maybe he’s good luck? Bring him on…Haha!

December 15, 2022 at 11:07 pm #209290Heck, I’ll do it for free admission. And if they throw in a few hot dogs and a couple of Coca-Colas, I’ll even promise not to say anthing bad about the Cardinal manager…
December 16, 2022 at 1:09 am #209291I’ve been enjoying Rooney’s broadcasts since I lived in Chicago in the 1990’s and am confident he’d be an excellent choice for Dan’s job. Rooney should naturally inherit the TV gig, and I’ll take his job. I don’t want to brag or anything, but I’ve often been told I have a face made for radio.
December 16, 2022 at 1:39 am #209292Not sure Bob is ready to leave his cushy gig at MASN calling the Nats games. He’s been there almost 16 years and I personally hated he left.
He’s a talent for sure but they’d have to pony up to get him I’m sure. Oh please no package with FP Santangelo. That guy sucks!
Rooney would be an ok replacement. Like him on Radio. TV idk if he’d be good enough.
Matt Vasgergian would be a good one as well but he’s on MLB Network and MLB The Show’s tit.
Don Orsillo would be my other pipe dream. He ain’t leaving San Diego! lol
Pretty sure the Cardinals will screw this up!
December 16, 2022 at 8:15 am #209299Al Hrabosky and call it a day.
December 16, 2022 at 9:06 am #209300Is Bob Carpenter the one that, when a homerun is hit, he says…..”SEE….YOU….LATER!”?
If that’s him, then NO NO AND HECK NO!!!!!
December 16, 2022 at 9:32 am #209306Maybe they could talk Joe Buck into coming back. He has scaled back his work with the national networks.
December 16, 2022 at 10:34 am #209314I despise Rooney but I always watch with no sound so it would be okay. Carpenter would be my choice. I much prefer see you later to it’s a goner.
December 16, 2022 at 11:46 am #209326Getting Joe Buck to do it would be huge.
December 16, 2022 at 11:50 am #209327Oh please no package with FP Santangelo. That guy sucks!
Yes he is bad. I live in VA so I listen to a few MASN games. He’s consistently bad, and there aren’t many that strike me as worse than average. He did crack me up one time during Rosenthal’s brief stint with the Nats, where after several wild pitches he said he thought Rosie hit the mascot.
No worries about a package deal though. Santangelo left the Nats after the 2021 season.
December 16, 2022 at 11:55 am #209328Who nominated these guys?
December 16, 2022 at 7:13 pm #209339I like both Rooney and Carpenter. The Rockies have a real good television guy in Drew Goodman. He did college football around here before getting the Rockies gig some 10-12 years ago. Probably would not want to leave Colorado, but he is a quality broadcaster. His home run call is “…take a good look, you won’t see it for long…’ He is head and shoulders better than the Rockies radio team – which is ironic since Goodman is all of about 5’8”.
Would love to see Joe Buck back, but I doubt he would want the 162 game grind. Maybe if he did home games though….
December 16, 2022 at 8:03 pm #209342Skip Joe Buck. He can’t keep his political views out of his banter.
I might not get much agreement on this. But I like Rick Horton. He keeps his head in the game and is as knowledgeable as anybody, IMO. Let’s try him out and see how the fans like him as a TV announcer.
December 16, 2022 at 8:40 pm #209344I might not get much agreement on this.
I agree with this statement. Sorry, couldn’t resist. I do like Horton as an analyst, but not in the lead play by play slot. May be lacking the charisma I’d like to see for that role. I also agree with you on J Buck. Used to like him a lot, but gradually over the last 10 years or so, not so much.
December 16, 2022 at 8:42 pm #209345I never thought Bob Carpenter should have left. I always liked him.
Why did he leave? I liked him too. I was at Scott AFB 1998 to 2000 and saw many of his broadcasts.
December 16, 2022 at 9:06 pm #209347He was around long before that. I can remember KSDK and KPLR feeds on AFN from the late 80’s that broadcast in the area of Ramstein. I vividly recall his play by play while in Landstuhl in ’87.
December 16, 2022 at 9:30 pm #209348I agree with mudville concerning Joe Buck. His views of the world mean absolutely nothing to me. My impresion has always been one of a veritible cupcake who possesess a low voice.
December 16, 2022 at 10:42 pm #209349I say go young, somebody nobody knows and let him have his own voice and new personality for it. I know they probably won’t and it’s a risky move, though Dan was only 26 when he took over as broadcaster for the Cardinals. I never loved Dan, but didn’t hate him.
It’s also even more of a stretch but I know Jevin Redman, he’s the University of Evansville broadcaster for basketball, volleyball, baseball, has experience with Western Kentucky baseball and football, Independent League Evanville Otters, and Louisville Bats baseball. I played baseball with his older brothers, played for his dad, who was a D2 baseball coach. I don’t expect he would actually be the next voice of the Cardinals but I hope he gets his chance at the big time one day because he’s very talented.December 22, 2022 at 10:05 am #209697I think it could never happen, but I would like to see the white sox announcers take over as the voices of the Cardinal broadcasts on rally sport… Jason Benetti and Steve Stone always do a great job together. Benetti is only 39, so he could be the voice of the Cardinals for the next 25 years. I hope the powers that be at least contact them.
