This move doesn’t surprise me one bit. DeJong is going to rejoin the team and the Cardinals are not going to eat that contract. I guess it remains to be seen what happens to Gorman so the middle infield puzzle still isn’t completely solved.

Could mean Gorman goes somewhere by trade for a pitcher or Soto? That’s assuming DeJong is back with this move and off the taxi squad.

Does this trade mean that we won’t be trading Dejong? He is pretty much the only other player that can play shortstop.

I think it depends on what happens to Gorman. If Gorman stays then DeJong is a backup. If Gorman is traded then DeJong is the starting shortstop. Or maybe DeJong gets traded also, who knows? My guess is that DeJong stays because of his contract.

TJ surgery last May. Only good thing I see is that he still hás a couple of options. Would have prefered a lower level minor leaguer that didnt need an off season roster spot

How long would it be before we could expect to see Winn at the big league level?

The biggest thing is our depth chart is now DeJong, Edman, Donovan, Perez, Mendoza at SS. If Gorman gets traded, one of them starts at 2B and our depth gets very thin. I’m hoping the Cardinals see something in Romero, but I’m sceptical.

Well unless they trade for a SS then we’re stuck with him. Better hope Edman doesn’t get injured.

I look at it a bunch of ways. Paul had nothing else to prove in AAA. Sosa had no options. Cards get a gas can on paper but Naughton didn’t exactly set the world on fire when we picked him off the scrapper either.

This could free up Edman to 2nd on days where Gorman might face a lefty. Tommy right side at the plate is his better side. Paul likely would fair better against lefties as well. We’ll see! No more SoSo.

Joseph Abel “Frenchy” or “JoJo” Romero……turns 26 in a few weeks. Sosa should provide immediate help in Philadelphia, while Romero’s ML ready attributes seem cloudy. What’s even more hazy is why we would be helping a playoff contending rival achieve their post season aspirations? Our Cards must truly believe they can harness something in this fellow that Philly could not.

There is only so much playing time out on the field. Sosa was the infielder who hardly played, so who will that be now? Or will an infielder play more outfield and an outfielder gets less time?

I really thought that Sosa had a little more trade value than this. The guy he was traded for hasn’t looked very good for years. Am I missing something? Did the Cards just say they would take the best offer and this was it?

De jong doesn’t have any trade value right now….Sosa while nothing great this year could help Philly some with a little regular playing time.

JoJo Romero is like a career 8 ERA….maybe they will just cut him to clear a spot on the 40 man

Hard to believe this is the best they could pull for Sosa. Dodges traded Zach McKinstry for a good, usable bull pen piece in Chris Martin. The Cardinals trade Sosa for Jojo Romero. This does scare me that they are serious about Soto and they want Thompson as part of it and this was strictly a depth move for the Cardianls. But really would have loved to see then actually fill a hole. Naughton and Thompson had filled the 2nd LHP behind Cabrera very well and they need to replace McFarland in the pen with an arm like Chris Martin. I believe Romero is in his last option year too. This has Aledmys Diaz for JB Woodman all over it. Sosa was just depth but will go have a solid career as a back up, and the Cardinals get someone who will never put on the uniform to fill a hole.

Traded away a glove first SS with no plate discipline. Acquired a hard throwing lefty returning from TJ surgery.

Opened up a active roster spot for DeJong if they choose so. Donovan can play an adequate SS when needed.

Romero can be optioned down this season and one more, Sosa couldn’t. Makes good enough sense. Romero’s future results are what matters now.

Sosa has no options left so a trade was limited to teams that wanted to carry him on the active roster forever.

Alright Jojo Siwa has another option year for next year, so it’s not as bad. Still wish they’d filled a hole, but seems like they were trying to make room to get DeJong back on the team though for whatever reason.

I’m not big on this trade but I understand it. Romero is a gamble but maybe it pans out. It’s kind of what the Cardinals do. They get low hanging fruit and hope he turns into something better than that. At least Sosa may have a chance to play more so that’s good. Could be a scenario though where both teams make the playoffs and Sosa gets a game winning hit in a decide it all game against us. It has happened before.

Romero should have 1-2 options left. He wasnt optioned in 2020 or 2021

Further research leads me tô believe that Romero can be optioned this year +2 more years. He was added tô.the 40 man roster before the 2020 season and did not appear in the minors in either 2020 or 2021 (he was injured with TJ surgery most of 2021)

No-one lost an option yr in 2020. Isn’t that correct CC?
