I will be at this game rooting the Cardinals to victory! Can’t wait to go to my first in person game of the year!

It would be fun to see the Cardinals go on an early season tear, rip off 10 of 11 or something like that.

Have fun, cardsfan64. Give us an in-person opinion of the game when you can. You always pick up a lot more in person than watching on television.

Some thoughts on last night’s game and our club so far.

Great defense is hard to quantity – it is incredibly valuable.

Helsley looks like he will be the 9th inning guy before the season is over. Has that “2011 Jason Motte” look about him.

Sosa just looks like a ball player. He’s got the ability and the swagger. Thinking DeJong is shopped around the trade deadline, if not before, although his value is likely less than his contract right now.

Tough to see this Reds team. Great history and a good baseball town, but a crappy owner. They were on the verge of being a very good club, and then purged most of their talent. Then the owner made some stupid comments trying to justify management’s motives. We are lucky to have an owner like DeWitt who balances financial stability and a quality on-field product.

Watched highlights of the Cubs-Pirates, and there were a lot of empty seats at Wrigley. But then the weather looked lousy.

Love the navy blue hats as an alternative. Had a couple of buddies, twin brothers, back in the ‘90s that were big Cardinal fans. They felt that the best uni’s the Cardinals had were the home outfits with the navy blue hats that they had in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s. I like the red hats for home, but would be okay if they went to an alternate home look and wore navy blue hats on certain days.

Thinking the Reds break through in one of the next two and snap their losing streak. We never seem to sweep series, even against weak opponents. Course last September we swept about 5 series in a row! Maybe we used up our quota for awhile.

Am liking that Knizner is in there more often. I still tend to call him “Ka-NIZ-ner.” :-).

We really need to get Hudson right. If he can be a solid #3/4 and Flaherty returns, that’s actually a pretty solid rotation. Jack-Waino-Matz-Hudson-Mikokas/Hicks in reserve can win the Central, I think.

I keep getting the same old error message again. “Your post cannot be created at this time.”

Who knows if this post will go through……

Hudson was my pick to click this year and so far that certainly hasn’t happened. This team really needs him to step up to be a division winner.

I don’t know if Sosa is an everyday player or not but his production can’t be worse than DeJong’s. The Cardinals have a history of playing the contract and that seems to be happening again.

Some have speculated that Edman could move to short and Gorman could come up to play 2B. I am not sure if Gorman is ready. His OPS right now at Memphis is an amazing 1.144 but his K rate is over 35%. That is concerning.

Now gscottar, you know that strikeouts don’t matter anymore. Nor does batting average. What matters is his fWIR, BABIR, vFFD, and his TUUK. That’s what really matters.

Oh, and Miguel Cabrera has now joined the 3,000 hit club.

Then again, hits don’t really matter either. What matter is his OPR+, his DRT, his HRAL, and his rOBR.

I’ll be game threading this one with all of my good friends here at The Cardinal Nation, as long as mlb-tv is carrying the action. Let’s hope our boys win this one for CardsFan64, who is taking in the action in the Queen City this afternoon. No din-dins today gang????

Hopefully they will not mess up a gold glove infield. If there was any reason to think PDJ was going to reverse a 5 year slide and revert to 2017, I would say its too early to pull the plug. But there isn’t and its not. The safe move is playing Sosa. The Gorman/Edman move is riskier with potential upside if it all works.

We won’t know anything about Gorman until we see if he can do anything but hit into a shift at the MLB level. To me, last year’s massive platoon split is a red flag.

Think we may step out for din-din, but I will chime in with lunch, which I am enjoying as I type this. Having sort of a ballpark midday meal of a cheddar brat loaded with mustard, kraut and pickle relish, seasoned fries, and a rare 7.5 ounce Coca Cola. Don’t drink soda much anymore but we get the small size and will have them now and then.

Din-din that was just completed was a couple of chicken thighs in the air fryer, some beef and noodles that I made last night, a bowl of chocolate ice cream along with a Mt. Dew. Going to light up a 7×50 Palma Real cigar at first pitch.

Hope this post goes through. I hate to miss the din-din report.

You’re coming in loud and clear now, Rat. BicycleMike & Rat checking in with a couple tidy little din-dins, but nothing to draw any comparisons to the late great Julia Childs with. But sometimes these basic garden variety din-dins absolutely rock. And I’ll be dishing up a similar so-so spread, with two large hamburgers with mustard, onion and pickle, crispy waffle fries and three glorious apple cinnamon apple pies from Popeye’s chicken. Hopefully, someone out there will be forthcoming with a din-din to remember….or to copy, for that matter.

My lunch consisted of an organic black bean burrito and very crispy tortilla chips with a large diet mountain dew.

Tonight we are going back to the local steak house. It will be an 8oz filet tenderloin, coleslaw, fried potatoes, and texas toast, with a large diet coke.

If you are ever in NW Arkansas I would highly recommend Herman’s Ribhouse.

Edman with a routine fly to center off Mahle to start the game.

Goldy dumps a short fly to right that just barely eludes the 2nd baseman and the charging right fielder for a hit.

Carlson singles to right with Goldy stopping at 2nd and the Birds are in business right off the bat in this one.

Arenado strikes out swinging on a slider.

Dickerson flys out to straightaway left to retire the side.

    No score

Hudson starts off this one by issuing 4 straight balls to the leadoff Red(NaQuin).

Drury raps it to short and this has “two” written all over it…..flips to Edman for one but then airmails his throw over Goldy’s head….safe at 1st, but Drury cannot advance to 2nd

The Birds now get the 6-4-3 twin killing off Tommy Pham’s bat to retire the side.

    No score.

Nooty knocks a grounder down the 1st baseline but Votto smothers it and underhands his throw to his pitcher Mahle at 1st for the out. Nooty hesitated running out of the box, but I still don’t think he beats the throw even if he had pounced out of the starting blocks promptly.

Bader walks. Then swipes 2nd…..they had him nailed but Garcia couldn’t hand onto the throw.

    PDJ walks.

Knizner fists one into right for a hit…Bader will score with Paulie taking up temporary residency at 2nd…..1-0 Cards.

Edman flies out to NaQuin in right and both runners have to stay right where they’re at.

Goldy pops out to Votto in foul territory to retire the side.

Din-din at the CiF house this evening was butternut soup to start, then calf liver lightly sauteed in butter and smothered in onions and a side of duchess potatoes, followed by a salad. No dessert, but perhaps I’ll sneak off for a bit of I scream along about the seventh inning.

Votto raps out 3-1 to open the Redleg 2nd.

Farmer grazed by an inside Hudson fastball and he’ll trot on down to 1st. And Farmer is nailed by a mile attempting to take 2nd base liberties off Hudson & Knizner…..sweet throw? Yadi who?

    Senzel whiffs.
