45 minutes after completion of Game 1
RHP Dakota Hudson (1-2, 2.77) vs. bullpen game
Cardinals are the home team
FOX Sports Midwest // KMOXHudson has been moved to Sunday, with this now being a bullpen game for both teams.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWeiters catching, O’Neill, Bader, Thomas OF, Edman to 3B
September 5, 2020 at 7:29 pm #138810Gomber gets the start. Cubs starter is RHP Colin Rea.
1. Kolten Wong (L) 2B
2. Tommy Edman (S) 3B
3. Paul Goldschmidt (R) 1B
4. Brad Miller (L) DH
5. Paul DeJong (R) SS
6. Lane Thomas (R) RF
7. Tyler O’Neill (R) LF
8. Matt Wieters (S) C
9. Harrison Bader (R) CFSeptember 5, 2020 at 7:42 pm #138811
stlcard25ParticipantNow at the halfway point of the season (if they need to play all 60), the Cards need to take advantage of the Cubs bullpen in game 2. Hopefully Gomber can give us a solid 2 innings or perhaps more.
September 5, 2020 at 7:48 pm #138813I’m optimistically hoping for 3 or more innings from Gomber. If he is efficient, he could do it. He threw 12 pitches on the 2nd and 16 on August 31st. He’s thrown as many as 34 pitches twice this year in relief. Time for him to make a statement about being a starter.
September 5, 2020 at 7:53 pm #138814
stlcard25ParticipantGomber starts the game with 7 straight balls. Not ideal.
September 5, 2020 at 8:00 pm #138815
stlcard25ParticipantGomber fights back to get two Ks and a fly out. But he used 22 pitches to get through the inning.
September 5, 2020 at 8:18 pm #138816
stlcard25ParticipantGomber through 2 on 38 pitches. Can he go another?
September 5, 2020 at 8:21 pm #138817
stlcard25ParticipantPaul Dejong drives one into the left field bleachers on his first pitch and it’s 1-0 Cards.
September 5, 2020 at 8:22 pm #138818Chicks love De Jong ball!
1-0 Cards in the second.
September 5, 2020 at 8:22 pm #138819I never should have said anything about his efficiency.
September 5, 2020 at 8:23 pm #138820Way to go O’Neill. 3-0 Cardinals.
September 5, 2020 at 8:23 pm #138821
jj-cf-stlParticipantTyler! BOOM!
September 5, 2020 at 8:24 pm #138822
stlcard25ParticipantTyler O’Neill crushes one oppo!! 3-0 Cards!
September 5, 2020 at 8:24 pm #138823Now Popeye muscles one out!
3-0 Cards.
Pour it on!
September 5, 2020 at 8:24 pm #138824
jj-cf-stlParticipant25, next two Cubs can hit lefty, could let Gomber start the inning and see where it goes.
September 5, 2020 at 8:26 pm #138825
stlcard25ParticipantWieters looks like the most automatic out in the lineup right now. I’d like to hope he can provide some value like he did late last year, but it’s not looking promising.
September 5, 2020 at 8:27 pm #138826Thank you on the Waters post STL25. This site needs agree or thank you buttons?
September 5, 2020 at 8:31 pm #138827Gomber is wild. If the Cubs batters had just stood in the batters box and not swung at anything, they would have had the bases lose and who knows how many runs they would have scored. I hope Gomber figures it out, and if he doesn’t, I hope the Cubs don’t figure out what’s going on.
September 5, 2020 at 8:37 pm #138828
stlcard25Participant5 Ks for Gomber in 2-2/3. He battled. Helsley is coming in. He was iffy his first time out, so hopefully he’s knocked some rust off.
September 5, 2020 at 8:42 pm #138829
stlcard25ParticipantHelsley is just chucking em down the middle. He needs a putout pitch here. He gets him to pop out. A bit harrowing, but it worked.
September 5, 2020 at 8:44 pm #138830Bull Shildt again pushing all the right buttons, pulling Gomber at the perfect time and inserting Helsley who rewards him by getting out of the inning. 3-0 Cards.
September 5, 2020 at 8:48 pm #138831
stlcard25ParticipantEdman and Goldy with the back to back singles, and the Cards have 1st and 3rd.
September 5, 2020 at 8:50 pm #138832
stlcard25ParticipantMiller drives one out to left center and it’s 4-0 Cardinals.
September 5, 2020 at 8:53 pm #138833How ‘bout that for putting the ball in play and moving runners along…Edman, Goldschmidt, B. Miller with 3 consecutive singles. 4-0 Cardinals.
