My din-din before I mow tomorrow before this game will be a New York strip steak, a couple of ears of Aces High sweet corn, and a piece of Cookies N’Cream pie. Then it will be time to mow. Do a little trimming. Then some jogging. Then a quick shower and light up a cigar with my old buddy Whitey Herdog on the couch with me to watch Game One.

Unless it rains tomorrow, then the outdoor activities are off and I’ll spend time at the pool table before the game.

I will say that having Waino and then Hudson pitch pretty far into the games the last couple of nights should pay some dividends as far as keeping the bullpen fresh. The doubleheader today will be a little taxing, but hopefully KK and Oviedo can pitch well and deep into the games, giving the guys even more rest. I’d guess Woodford might be the 29th man again? He usually seems to be.

Woodford will not be the 29th man – because he is already among the 28. (Check the Roster Matrix.)

My guess is Elledge. Other easy choices are Crismatt, Kaminsky, Ramirez, Cruz and Meisinger. This assumes no one is activated off the IL. They are Fernandez, Martinez, Helsley and Whitley. The latter is slowed with shoulder soreness (or maybe elbow – it was a Goold report. No time to look for it now…).

My bad. I’m sure we will find out today.

Too bad about Whitley. Hopefully his shoulder is just sore from getting back into the swing of things and not a serious injury. Seems like too many of those things happening this year.

Rat, what are you doing up at 3:31am? Got some insomnia? Your meal sure sounds good. I was planning to mow today also but it looks the outer bands of Hurricane Laura are approaching here today so I will postpone the mowing to the weekend.

By the way, have you guys noticed how the ball just jumps off the bat of Brad Miller? He doesn’t look imposing at all but he must have some real power. He hit 30 homers for the Rays in 2016. For just $2M he has been a nice pickup.

We need to get a sweep of the lowly Pirates today and keep the pressure on those Cubbies.

Today would be a good time for Edman to get his rear in gear. Is this the dreaded sophomore jinx? Most here figured him to take a step back and it seems that he is not showing the confidence at the plate that he had in ’19. How much lease does Schildt give Edman to continue to show that he is more than a utility guy?

Interesting comments by KK Kim in the Post Dispatch:

    https://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/cardinals-pitching-solid-at-one-third-mark-of-season/article_05700480-9fc4-5464-9420-5905f214918e.html

“I’m sure some position players will have to play both games, so I know it will be tough for them,” Kim said through his translator. “When I pitched the last time against Cincinnati, I was trying to pitch as fast as possible so the position players could finish the game as soon as possible.”

Sounds like a good and considerate teammate. Hopefully he pitches quickly and efficiently today as well.

At least you’re trending in the right direction overall. Since the list two days ago, seven have gone up, four down, and two unchanged.

i like a sweep by the cardinals today. We should get a little jump by coming back in that game last night. Im hoping they dont take the pirates lightly though. The royals arent really that good and they almost took two out of three.

I aim to please. Hopefully in the next few weeks, we see even more swing in the right direction and most everyone is at or above 100.

Junior Fernandez is activated, Elledge becomes the 29th man, and Andrew Miller to the IL with shoulder soreness.

I think they burned him out end of 2019 and playoffs. He carried the team until he could not do it anymore. He seems to be coming around a bit nowdays.

I’m catching this one on the radio thanks to the blackout. So far, we’ve maintained a brisk pace of 25 minutes for the first two innings. One hit for each team.

Carlson clearly needed some more seasoning at Memphis, but this year forced the Cards’ hand. He grounds into a double play and we’re through 3 in 35 minutes.

Brad “Designated Hitter” Miller’s error at 3rd leads to the Pirates taking a 1-0 lead, at the least.

He gets out of it with a double play ball and a fly out. Nice work! Now let’s score a few runs.

The Cards have put a ton of pressure on their staff by allowing leadoff runners on. The Cards have not put a lot of pressure on the Pirates because most of their hits seemed to have come with 2 out.

So far we are making the pirates look a lot better than they are.

Gallegos finally puts away Will Craig on the 10th pitch. Would be nice to close out another walkoff win here.
