(If you are having trouble finding the telecast, check the Game 1 thread for FOX Midwest Plus alternate channels.)Mike Shildt waited until after he saw how his Game 1 pitching went before naming his Game 2 starter. He said he plans to follow this approach for future doubleheaders.

August 16, 2020 at 11:54 am #135424Shildt said that Austin Gomber will rejoin the team Monday and is a candidate to start this game. But he will not make final decision until after Game 1.

stlcard25ParticipantReyes with a couple of strikeouts early, and also a couple of walks. Now another walk to load the bases.

stlcard25ParticipantA passed ball scores a run but the Cubs run into an out, so the Cards get out of the inning down 1-0.
August 17, 2020 at 7:23 pm #135598Will Gomber pitch in this game or are we going to throw in the towel?
I liked Gomber in even 2-3 inning role to start. Reyes is not who I’d chosen to open the game.
August 17, 2020 at 7:37 pm #135600Why doesn’t Flaherty ever pitch? Something is going on, as it can’t just be precaution due to the layoff. If that were the case he would be pitching at least 40-50 pitches in a start to build arm strength like Waino and Hudson.

stlcard25ParticipantBrad Miller with a deep shot to left center!! 2-1 Cards.

stlcard25ParticipantWhy doesn’t Flaherty ever pitch?
He’s scheduled to pitch the first game Wednesday. Hard to say why he’s been pushed to the back of the rotation, though.

Well the rumor is their is something to his extended layoff. No one on here is discussing it but other sites are talking.

Turns out they did not activate Gomber today. Details in this article.

stlcard25ParticipantRicardo Sanchez looks solid in his two innings of work. Nice to get an unexpected set of zeroes from him.
August 17, 2020 at 8:00 pm #135608Question for the history buffs: Have the Cardinals ever been the home team in Wrigley Field before?

Not likely since the last time the Cards were the home team in an away stadium anywhere was in 1906.
April 25, 1906 at Cincinnati (L, 8-5) – Palace of the Fans (per Cards media relations)
If it did happen, it would have been between 1892 and 1905.
August 17, 2020 at 8:07 pm #135611I think the Cubs were the road team at Wrigley a few years ago.
August 17, 2020 at 8:10 pm #135612I see Brian. Guess is he’ll throw a couple innings as the opener game 2 on Wed.
August 17, 2020 at 8:10 pm #135613Interesting. Thanks guys!
