I’m predicting this one with a Cards win at 5-2, Flaherty goes 6 and 2/3 and 10Ks. Goldy wakes the bat up and hits a 2 run HR in the first and a 2 run double in the 6th. O’neill gets the other RBI with a solo HR. Matt Carpenter gets a PH appearance in the 8th and Ks on two called strikes down the middle and a swing and miss on the third pitch in the dirt. Wong makes a game saving play, then Bader dives and grabs a line drive we all thought would be a double!

Boy, that sure is a fine lot of predicting CFCT, though I think I’d downgrade it somewhat from a prediction to a fervent hope, except for the Carpenter part.

While we’re awaiting today’s game perhaps somebody out there could explain somehing to a guy who has lived abroad for a long time and has not kept up with all the American trends and fads: Just what is it with this bobblehead thing? Are these dumb little items that don’t even look like the player they are purported to represent actually desirable? The announcers keep going on and on about what luck the first 30,000 of us who pay our way into the park are going have when we get one of these incredibly stupid objects for free. What does one do with a bobblehead? Surely not put it on display in one’s home. God knows I loved and admired Musial and Schoendienst, but why reduce them to objects of ridicule?

Chi town Cardinal, I love your script, now I don’t even have to watch the game! Those bobble heads are a collector thing. Best use I found for one is to give it to the kids to play with till they break it. Find it a couple months later laying somewhere with the head pulled off. There used to be a museum in Miami’s stadium with hundreds of baseball player bobble heads. If you get famous maybe you can get one too. Best use I’ve seen is too afix to your car dash board so it can bobble while you drive. If you have one then you can have someone to talk to. If it looks like your wife you may even get driving directions too!
Glad Flahertys pitching tonight. If we get some runs we’ll win. Go Cardinals!

Our best hope now is that Chicago has 14 road games for which they have been 28-39 and only eleven home games for which they are 46-24. History would suggest that they will finish with 33.85 road wins and 53.23 home wins for a 87.08–74.92 record. The Cards should be win 51.65 at home, and 39.31 on the road for a 90.96–71.04 record Of course, this does not consider who each team plays. I’m not thrilled to go to Arizona for 3 and Colorado for 3 (or hosting Washington for 3 for that matter). It isn’t going to be as easy as it looks. I do like that the Cubs have to go to Milwaukee and San Diego for four each.

Boy I can understand where you are coming from CIF. Actually while they may be handed out as a free item at the ballpark (after you pay for your ticket, parking and hotdog/beer) you will find a treasure trove of them on ebay the next day. Even the minor league teams hand them out. I went to a Springfield game a couple of years ago where they handed out Yadi Platinum Glove bobbleheads (not sure if the head bobbled or not) and there were kids running around and collecting them from disinterested fans. My wife and I kept ours and later sold them on ebay for $30 each. No doubt those kids did the same but a lot sooner than we did. I recently succumbed to buying a handout freebie on ebay and boy did I get stuck. It was a hoodie that I just decided I had to have because it looked so cool on TV but when I got it after paying a ridiculous sum (one Yadi bobblehead price), it was nothing more than some Chinese arse wipe material that my wife enjoyed laughing at when I put it on. Bad is not a word to describe it.

Surprised that Austin Gomber did not get called up. He was rehabbing at Springfield at the end of the season and not looking too bad. Shildt may be pushing it running Wacha out on short rest but I am the one who always says he knows better than any of us so let it be.

Maybe, just maybe that big bad hurricane will not destroy the Cards facility at Jupiter. I hope it turns out to see but nobody is sure yet. Guess we wait until next season to see Dylan Carlson.

Bleacher Reports came out with their power rankings today:
    STL #5
    WAS #7
    CHC #11

The Chicago Cubs are not that good. We win this division going away.

Hope they’re right Nyquist, taking the division this year would really be great, got to keep rollin’. Wouldn’t worry about Jupiter MM3 , I live in Fl and this hurricane has been a dud so far. Ok by me though, its offshore and sank Bahamas but the State has been just fine

Goldy Stats: I like. Room for improvement but still respectable with added incredible defense. Seldom do trades work out as expected and Goldy will be a great addition for the next 6 years. He is a team leader already and well respected among all MLB players. My concern is the strikeouts but a while back I looked at his career record and they seem to be something that he just does. Maybe Harry’s son can coach him up on those…..LOL

Curious why Shildt has the courage to basically bench Carpenter when he wouldn’t do it with Fowler last year.

Just be glad that he does and realizes the value of Tommy Edman.

Seems to me they needed Fowler a lot more last year. After Pham and Piscotty left seems like we were short on out fielders. Dexter was playing hurt but sprung back this year. Edman, Bader and O’niel have been nice surprises esp w/Baders turnaround.
Carpenters season has been a mystery to me but you could see him struggling with the shift at the end of last season. Looks like he hasn’t been able to adjust to it yet.

Could be wrong Rats but seems to be pretty steady to me. Gets alot of walks by not swinging at balls, does not seem to choke and can get the ball deep pretty consistently for sac fly. In the age of stats theres probably stats for all if that. Biggest thing for me is does he get it done-or not?

well had to record early part of game but I caught up. we are really struggling with hitting this pitcher tonight. he ahs spotted a few pitches but mostly we haven’t adjusted well. he is throwing slow so his offspeed stuff shouldn’t really be missing our bats that much. but at least Flaherty is dealing.

Nice to have Ozuna come up with a big one. Our first three hits didn’t leave the infield. We aren’t hitting well. Good day for Flaherty.

bader reverting back a little to his old ways though hes not alone tonight. though I think rodriguez has pitched well. its gonna be a rough one for Flaherty to lose if he hangs one. but hes solid right now. do we trust the bullpen or stay with him.

Man, the offense just doesn’t do Jack any favors, does it? They’re lucky they’ve gotten one run so far. Would be nice to get some more cushion in the 8th.
