After Thursday’s day off…
7:15 p.m. RHP Dakota Hudson (13-6, 3.47) vs. RHP Trevor Bauer (10-11, 4.34) FOX Sports Midwest // KMOX //WIJRAugust 29, 2019 at 6:40 am #104260It seems to be silly season with MLB writers. Now we have daily lists made up by their writers of things that they think make a difference but that are actually just fillers to earn their salary. Top 10 this and thats are nothing more than educated WAGS but today they came up with one that really caught my eye as What the Heck is This?
It was:
“Best MLB player from Top 25 football schools”August 29, 2019 at 7:13 am #104262Yeah MM3 everytime I click a top 10 list online I suffer tons of advertising and 10 times 3 pages to get to each item. Usually give up on click bait by the third time. Had to chuckle yesterday at the turn around in the media coverage of the Cardinals
Since we got in first place I’m seeing lots of stories about how great we are now and how we’ve made a great comeback. Now we’re the greatest thing since sliced bread
I hope the team doesn’t believe all the hype. We’re still not there yet, no time to lose focus.Like Eric Clapton said “Nobody loves you when you’re down and out”August 29, 2019 at 7:42 am #104267
stlcard25ParticipantThis is a big series. Sure, we will have a little lead of either 1.5 or 2.5 games to cushion, but with the possible exception of the second game of the DH Saturday, the Reds have a clear pitching advantage in each one. The offense will need to show up in the clutch because I could see a lot of 3-2, 2-1 games. If we can take 3/4 here that would be huge but expecting more than a split may be unrealistic.
August 29, 2019 at 8:48 am #104274Gotta do better than a split at home against a losing team. Less than three of four would be a disappointment.
August 29, 2019 at 9:00 am #104275IIRC, Adam Duvall who at one time was a Cincy main piece was recently DFAed by Atlanta(?) or whomever he was traded to. Wasn’t too long ago he was hitting dingers against the Cards. Gennett also gone as is Puig. They seem to have a lot of turnover but that is probably not unusual for a below 500 team. Votto is back but Joey has not been a terrible threat this year. Still surprised that Bauer was traded away by the Indians – there must be more to that story including throwing the ball over CF wall from the mound. The Cards are peaking and the Reds are the team that loves to be spoilers. As Brian said – gotta do better than split with them, especially at home. Hope that the Mets can give us a hand today.
August 29, 2019 at 9:49 am #104277Four against the Reds and then four against the Giants. We need to make hay here and win six of these eight. The Cubs have Milwaukee at Wrigley and will probably win all three, then two against Seattle. They could be on a eight game winning streak by this time next week.
August 29, 2019 at 9:50 am #104278The Reds’ only role in 10 years is being spoilers in Sept. We have been (deeply) in their heads since the Dat Dude fiasco, and with few exceptions we get ’em.
3 of 4 is doable.

The best they do will be 4-2…. they are not invincible. Not even close… da Cubs ain’t that good.

Which matchups do you think favor St Louis? I guess I could see Friday if Bauer keeps struggling. The Reds have Gray and Castillo for 2 of the other 3 and we have Wacha and Ponce for 2 with uneven Mikolas in the other. I’d like to be optimistic, but I’m not sure I see an easy three of four here.
August 29, 2019 at 5:58 pm #104309About to tune into the Cubs/Mets game. Hamels and DeGrom square off. Cubs got six in the 1st last night against Syndergaard. Lets hope DeGrom has better luck tonight. I am going to go out on a limb here and predict a no-hitter for DeGrom tonight.

August 29, 2019 at 7:15 pm #104311No no-hitter tonight. Caratini homered in the 2nd. 1-1 heading to the last of the 4th.

Friday – Bauer has an 8.02 ERA over his last four starts and 11.30 ERA in his last three.
Then we have Tyler Mahle as the TBA starter for one of the Saturday games. He is just coming up from the minors, but in two earlier games this season against StL, he has a 7.84 ERA.
Sunday – Castillo has a 6.65 ERA over his last four starts and 7.71 ERA in his last three.
These are three winnable games, IMO.
August 29, 2019 at 8:21 pm #104315That daggone Caratini just hit another homerun, this one a three run bomb, and the Cubs now lead 4-1 in the last of the 7th.
Back to 1.5 games. Cubs will sweep the Brewers and Mariners and have an 8 game winning streak.

August 29, 2019 at 9:36 pm #104316If it’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it is not to doubt the Rat when he feels strongly about something. If the Esteemed One thinks the cubbies are going to win their next 8 games, then you can bet your sweet bippy that they will finish no worse than 7-1 during that stretch. He’s pretty much money in the bank prognostication-wise during the dog days of August. But just wait until September…..then Rat really catches fire!
August 30, 2019 at 8:37 am #104335Cincy vs Marlins – two powerhouses meet in Miami and a huge crowd of 6466 paid attendance revels in watching their beloved Marlins take down the mighty Reds despite Aristotle hitting #14. He is the one guy that Hudson better not make a mistake to or POW. LOL
Just remembered – the approaching Hurricane Dorian is what kept the crowd in Miami from being a sellout – uh huh.
Go Cards
August 30, 2019 at 9:40 am #104349I am with Rat regarding the Cubs. You can surely bet they are going to keep the pressure on us. The Brewers pathetic pitching staff will get slaughtered this weekend at Wrigley.
If we want to win this division we need to win at least 3 out of 4 against the Reds. Anything less than that is asking for trouble.
August 30, 2019 at 10:05 am #104354I hope Hudson is on his game tonight. And the offense needs to click. Then Saturday and Sunday games we should lean heavily on the bullpen, which has been our big strength. Let’s not let the starters get us 3 or 4 runs down.
August 30, 2019 at 11:38 am #104359cubs evidently have figured out how to win on the road. Cards better keep their winning trend going this weekend. The idea of “make the playoffs, then get hot” has merit, but no so much as a wild card in the NL this year. Really need to win the division. Every game, every roster move, every lineup card, every opportunity to hustle, etc., matters the rest of the way.
August 30, 2019 at 12:12 pm #104360cubs evidently have figured out how to win on the road.
They sure have, Euro! And against some pretty imposing opposing hurlers to boot. That sweep in N.Y. was a warning shot straight over our bow that the cubbies mean business and are not about to relinquish their 4 year hold on this contentious NL Central division. It will be interesting to see how our boys respond to those north siders salvo???
* Indeed, a very nice touch in not capitalizing “cubs”, Euro! We see way too many serious Cardinal fans booting the ball in not paying attention to this. Along the same vein, it’s ALWAYS the Cardinals vs the cubs and not the other way around.

I say: It goes w/o saying that the Cubs will out-hit us, and their defense is equal to ours. Pitching is the key here.
BTW, Addams…you can bet YOUR bippy that I figured out the quote feature lickidy split. I like my way better. But what’s with the ??? after a statement? Deliberate ambiguity?
August 30, 2019 at 2:15 pm #104371And for good measure, the #stlcards tonight:
Fowler 9
Wong 4
Goldschmidt 3
Ozuna 7
DeJong 6
Molina 2
Carpenter 5
Bader 8
Hudson 1— Jeff Jones (@jmjones) August 30, 2019
August 30, 2019 at 3:52 pm #104380Cubs blanking Brewers in the 7th 5-0…Brews’ WC chances are getting slimmer.
August 30, 2019 at 4:01 pm #104381After this weekend the Brewers will be finished. Their only hope is the four game series they have with the Cubs next week in Milwaukee. They will, more than likely, need a four game sweep.
August 30, 2019 at 4:34 pm #104383Cubs win 7-1 over the Brewers. Lead will either be .5 or 1.5 after tonight.
Looks like a pile of storms and rain headed towards St. Louis. Will this game be delayed?
