The Cardinal Nation’s annual review of the top stories affecting the St. Louis Cardinals during this calendar year is back for an unlucky 13th year in 2020, with one selection unveiled per day.
Right up front, I have several admissions to make. In almost every way, 2020 became the kind of year that I would like to forget about as soon as possible – and I suspect I am not alone in my feelings about that.
Further, I’ve been known to vary the number of Top Stories of the Year based on my view of the importance of the key events during the prior 12 months.
With just 37% of the MLB schedule having been played in 2020 (and no minor league game action whatsoever), I have chosen to go with roughly that percentage of what would be in a normal year a robust 15-article series – the top five.
Per tradition, I will then wrap up the series with my prediction for the top five Cardinals stories of 2021 and audit how well I did in attempting to predict 2020’s biggest news items one year ago. Off the top of my head, I am guessing that self-assessment could be ugly. After all, who could possibly have foreseen what was coming 12 months ago?
This placeholder post will carry the links to all five stories (click on the titles below). A link to this as well as the top stories of each year from 2008 through 2019 and my start-of-year predictions for 2020 can always be found via “STORIES OF THE YEAR”, located on the red bar on the left side of the page, in the list directly underneath the site logo.
