St. Louis Cardinals Organization Roster Matrix – 2020 Shutdown

NOTE: As of 6/28/20, this version of the roster matrix is no longer current. It reflects the changes during the 2020 shutdown between March 12 and the second training camp, opening July 3. It should now be considered a historical reference document. For the active roster matrix during Summer Camp, click here.

Even though no St. Louis Cardinals players are active during this caution period caused by COVID-19, a refresh of the Roster Matrix is in order. Because there was no minor league spring training, which would normally set season-opening rosters, this refresh informally reflects a number of roster adjustments that apparently occurred over the prior weeks and months. They are reflected below.

This article and the tables below reflect the status of rosters across the Cardinals system to the best of our knowledge during the current transaction freeze period.

The previous matrix showed transactions from the start of big-league camp in February – however on it, players on the minor league rosters reflected alignment at end of the 2019 season.

If you are new to The Cardinal Nation and not familiar with the Cardinals organization roster matrix, here is quick summary:

As spring training was ended early and final pre-shutdown roster moves were completed, the St. Louis Cardinals have 294 players under contract from top to bottom, including 39 players on 40-man roster, plus one player already placed on the 60-day injured list. The 40-man members are called out in bold.

The matrix places each of the 294 at his assigned level in the system as well as by position. The 20 non-roster invitees still remaining in MLB camp noted by (NRI). Those already cut have a line through the (NRI) and 40-man players optioned out are designed by (opt).

The matrix is updated whenever transactions occur.

Nowhere else will you find this current and comprehensive single-page view of the entire Cardinals organization plus a decade of history.

(Do not be concerned about the order of the players’ names within position. It has no relative significance.)
