St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Notebook – September 8, 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis 2B Bryan Torres, was 3-for-5, including a double, a home run and four RBI. Other standouts include Tyler Bradt, Jesus Baez, Anyelo Encarnacion, Nelfy Ynfante, and Jalin Flores.

Memphis Redbirds 12, Rochester Red Wings 11

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds completed a seven-run comeback to win a slugfest over the Rochester Red Wings at AutoZone Park on Sunday.

Max Rajcic started for Memphis. The right-hander pitched 2 ⅔ innings and allowed six runs on eight hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.

Alex Cornwell yielded a run across 2 ⅓ innings with three strikeouts in relief of Rajcic. Osvaldo Berrios followed with a shutout frame. Zack Weiss surrendered three runs over an inning of work and was tagged with a blown save. Skylar Hales gave up a run over one inning but picked up his third win. Roddery Muñoz collected his second save with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Red Wings surged out to a 7-0 lead after the top of the fifth inning.

Memphis responded with a seven-run home fifth. Matt Lloyd led off the inning with his seventh home run of the season.

Noah Mendlinger singled, Michael Siani walked and Mike Antico hit a single to load the bags. Bryan Torres scorched a double to bring Mendlinger and Siani home.

César Prieto lined a single to plate Antico for a 7-4 game, with Torres to third.

Matt Koperniak walked to load the bases. Blaze Jordan drew a bases-loaded walk to force Torres home. Lloyd took a second consecutive walk with the bags full to score Prieto. Koperniak crossed home plate on a Mendlinger sacrifice fly to tie the game at seven apiece.

Memphis grabbed the lead with a run in the sixth. Siani singled and stole second base. Torres connected for an RBI single to put Memphis ahead.

Rochester regained the lead at 10-8 with a three-run top of the seventh.

Memphis moved within one in the home half of the frame. Lloyd walked and stole second base on a strikeout. Gavin Collins lined a single to score Lloyd.

The Red Wings took the run back in the top of the eighth for an 11-9 lead.

Memphis reclaimed the lead in the home half of the frame. Torres smashed his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot.

Prieto singled and moved to third base on a Koperniak double. Prieto touched home plate on a wild pitch to tie the game at 11.

Jordan hit his 15th double of the season to bring Koperniak home and give the Redbirds a 12-11 lead.

Memphis was 6-for-11 with runners in scoring position in their largest comeback win in 2025.

The Redbirds scored 12 runs on 12 hits. Torres was 3-for-5, including a double, a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI. Lloyd walked twice, scored twice, hit a home run, and drove in two. Jordan walked, doubled, and tallied two RBI. Prieto was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and an RBI. Mendlinger and Collins drove in one run apiece.

On the bases, Siani swiped his 24th bag. Lloyd stole his sixth. Torres was picked off first base.

Defensively, pitcher Cornwell committed a pickoff error. Right fielder Koperniak made a fielding error. Siani nailed a runner at home plate from center field.

Memphis is 74-62 overall, and 33-30 in the second half after taking four of six from Rochester. They reside in fourth place in the International League West Division, four games back of first place. The Redbirds will travel to VyStar Ballpark in Jacksonville, Florida, for a six-game set with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, starting Tuesday.

Springfield Cardinals 2 at Northwest Arkansas Naturals 1 (10 innings)

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals’ franchise-best winning streak was snapped at 11 as they fell in extra-innings to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in Sunday’s road series finale.

In a bullpen game, Tyler Bradt started for Springfield. The right-hander pitched three innings and yielded one unearned run on three hits, no walks, and four strikeouts as he lowered his Double-A ERA to 1.56.

Edwin Nuñez fired two shutout frames with a pair of strikeouts in relief of Bradt. Austin Love followed with two scoreless innings. Zane Mills fanned two across 2 ⅓ no-hit innings but allowed the winning run on a sac fly in the 10th inning, taking the loss.

The Naturals took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Springfield tied the game in the top of the sixth. Ramon Mendoza and Jon Jon Gazdar singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Darlin Moquete lined a single to bring Mendoza home. Springfield was unable to capitalize further and stranded two runners in the sixth.

The Cardinals struggled to find a rhythm offensively but kept Northwest Arkansas off the board to force extra innings. Springfield was unable to score in the top of the 10th, and the Naturals walked off the win in the bottom of the frame.

The Cardinals scored one run on four hits, all singles. Moquete drove in the lone run for Springfield. Mendoza walked, scored a run, and recorded a hit. Trey Paige and Gazdar each tallied a hit.

On the bases, Moquete swiped his 18th bag.

On defense, right fielder Joshua Baez made a throwing error.

Springfield is 84-48 overall, and 41-22 in the second half after taking five of six at Northwest Arkansas. They hold a four-game lead in the Texas League North Division. The Cardinals will head home to Hammons Field to begin the final series of the regular season on Tuesday, six games with the San Antonio Missions, before the postseason begins.

Tuesday’s game: vs. San Antonio (SD). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM CT.

Peoria Chiefs 5 at Beloit Sky Carp 7

The High-A Peoria Chiefs dropped a close contest to the Sky Carp in Beloit in the final game of their season.

Darlin Saladin started for the Chiefs. The right-hander pitched 4 ⅔ innings and allowed three runs on five hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.

D.J. Carpenter surrendered two runs and recorded just two outs in relief of Saladin. Jason Savacool yielded two runs across 1 ⅔ frames. Domenic Picone tossed 1 ⅓ scoreless innings.

Beloit struck first with a run in the home first.

Peoria grabbed the lead with a three-run top of the second. Travis Honeyman was hit by a pitch and scored on a two-run blast from Jesus Baez, his fourth with the Chiefs.

Jose Cordoba was hit by a pitch and swiped second base. Anyelo Encarnacion doubled home Cordoba to move the Chiefs ahead 3-1.

The Sky Carp responded with four runs in the fifth to jump in front 5-3.

The Chiefs moved to within 5-4 in the sixth. Deniel Ortiz and Rainiel Rodriguez singled to put runners at the corners. Honeyman was hit for the second time in the game to load the bags. Baez grounded into a forceout, with Ortiz scoring.

The Chiefs tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh. Sammy Hernandez walked. Encarnacion reached on a fielder’s choice, with Hernandez safe at second base via a throwing error. The runners advanced on a wild pitch. Hernandez crossed home on a Won-Bin Cho groundout.

The Sky Carp scored a pair of runs in the home seventh to take a 7-5 lead. Peoria was unable to respond.

The Chiefs scored five runs on seven hits. Baez was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Encarnacion went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Rodriguez and Ortiz singled. Cho recorded an RBI.

On the bases, Cordoba stole his fifth bag with Peoria. Baez was caught stealing second base. Ortiz was picked off first base.

On defense, shortstop Encarnacion committed a fielding error.

The Chiefs finished their 2025 season at 51-79 overall, and 25-40 in the second half. They ended the season in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division, 13 games back of first place, and did not qualify for the postseason.

Palm Beach Cardinals 4, Daytona Tortugas 2

The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals edged the Daytona Tortugas at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in their 2025 season finale.

Nelfy Ynfante started for Palm Beach. The right-hander pitched five scoreless, no-hit innings with two walks and seven strikeouts. Ynfante earned his fifth win of 2025.

Charles Harrison fanned four over two scoreless innings in relief of Ynfante. Alex Breckheimer followed with a shutout frame. Jovi Galvez allowed two runs in the ninth but held on to finish the game.

The Cardinals’ bats were hot early in a two-run bottom of the first inning. Chase Heath hit his first professional double and scored on Jalin Flores’ second career home run.

The Cardinals doubled the lead in the fourth. Matthew Miura singled. Ryan Weingartner reached base on a fielding error, with Miura to third. Cameron Nickens connected for a single to plate Miura. Nickens and Weingartner advanced on a Heriberto Caraballo groundout. Weingartner crossed home plate on a Jack Gurevitch sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0.

Palm Beach held off a late Daytona rally to win the final game of the regular season.

The Cardinals scored four runs on 10 hits. Flores was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Nickens singled twice and drove in a run. Heath doubled and scored.

The Cardinals did not steal a base.

On defense, shortstop Flores committed a fielding error. Catcher Caraballo was charged with a passed ball.

Palm Beach concluded its 2025 season at 63-67 overall, 31-34 in the second half. They ended the second half in third place in the Florida State League East Division, 12 games back of first place and were eliminated from the postseason.
