River Bandits to Broadcast Home Games via Internet Only

Rather than stop audio broadcasts of their games entirely, the Quad Cities River Bandits will live stream 2010 home games on the internet.

Last week, the local paper in the Quad Cities, The Quad-City Times, finally caught up with the news first reported here at The Cardinal Nation Blog back on February 9 that the River Bandits ended their radio broadcasts for financial reasons.

There was one encouraging bit of new information for local and remote fans alike. The Bandits have decided to assign their new Director of Media Relations, Tommy Thrall, the added role of play-by-play announcer for their 70 home games only.

Thrall, most recently of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Carolina League, replaced the former voice of the River Bandits, Ben Chiswick, who departed over the winter to Midwest League competitor West Michigan due to the cutback decision.

These Quad Cities audio broadcasts will be streamed over the internet via MILB.com starting with the River Bandits’ home opener on April 11. Bandits’ road games will also be available for streaming if the home clubs initiate radio broadcasts.
