Brian Walton’s take
With the major leaguers and minor leaguers all taking the day off Tuesday, I had expected a larger number of player cuts than two.
In this specific case, both are newcomers to the Cardinals this season with prior MLB experience. After being selected off waivers from Baltimore, Meisinger lost his 40-man roster spot and Hauschild was signed to a minor league deal. Being non-roster invitees increased the height of their joint spring mountain to climb.

Meisinger, 24, threw seven innings over eight games, allowing two runs on nine hits and a walk to go with seven strikeouts. While his ERA was just 2.53, opposing hitters batted a collective .310 against him.
Hauschild, 29, tossed 5 1/3 innings in five spring contests. He yielded four runs on four hits, including a home run, walked one and fanned two. His 6.75 ERA masks a solid .200 batting average against.
For both pitchers, the Memphis bullpen may be their next destination, as the Triple-A roster looks to be already loaded with prospects and the Double-A group looks pretty good, too.
Though the above Tweet from the team says 42 players remain in camp, I believe the total is 43, of which 33 are 40-man roster players and 10 are non-roster invitees. (The discrepancy could be the late addition of catcher Matt Wieters to the original invitee list of 64 threw off the team’s accounting.)
