Cardinals media announcement

Congratulations to INF Miguel Villarroel (A) on being named Florida State League Player of the Month!

Miguel Villarroel

Villarroel, 22, slashed .370/.387/.481 across 27 games and led the league in average, hits, total bases (52), and stolen bases.

He recorded 13 multi-hit games and had a 14-game hit streak from May 9-25.

Brian Walton’s take

As a minor league Rule 5 selection from Texas last December, Villarroel has been an excellent addition to the Cardinals organization.

In May, Villarroel stole 10 bases without being caught (second in the Cardinals system to Victor Scott, who was 12-for-14). He and his teammate Johnfrank Salazar co-led the system with nine doubles apiece.
