The St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Lars Nootbaar on the 10-day injured list and recalled infielder Jose Fermin from Triple-A.
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar is back on the 10-day injured list. The 26-year-old strained the oblique muscle in his left side on a checked swing during Wednesday’s game.
Nootbaar also missed most of spring training and the first two weeks of the regular season due to two fractured ribs after being on the IL three times in 2023. The left-handed hitter had been on a spurt recently, but for the season is slashing .234/.337/.404/.741.
In an earlier stint with St. Louis from April 24 to May 11, Fermin batted .200, but with Triple-A Memphis, the 25-year-old has been exceptional. With the Redbirds, the right-handed hitter is slashing .346/.461/.615/1.076 to go with six home runs, 20 RBI and 10 steals in 32 games.
Nootbaar has become the ninth player on St. Louis’ injured list and the second outfielder, along with Tommy Edman.
