St. Louis Cardinals press release

The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to today’s (Wednesday’s) game that they have placed right-handed pitcher Luke Gregerson (right shoulder impingement) on the 10-day disabled list and recalled right-handed pitcher John Brebbia from Memphis (AAA).

Gregerson, 34, worked 1/3 of an inning in relief last night, allowing a pair of runs.  He’s appeared in a total of 12 games this season, allowing eight runs on eight hits in 8.1 innings pitched.

Brebbia, who was charged with the loss in the Cardinals 2-1 defeat in 13 innings last Saturday (May 12) against the Padres, despite striking out four in 2.0 innings, is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in six relief appearances. He’s struck out 14 in his 10.0 innings pitched.

The Cardinals have had four pitchers go on the disabled list in the past week: Carlos Martínez (right lat strain), Tyler Lyons (mid back strain), Adam Wainwright (right elbow inflammation) and now Gregerson.

This is Gregerson’s second DL stint to date this season. He opened the year on the shelf due to a hamstring injury suffered during spring training, and was activated on April 16. His shaky results suggest he may have been trying to pitch at less than 100 percent.

Brebbia is the early king of the Cardinals 2018 Reliever Roulette, with this being his fourth time called up from Memphis in the last five weeks. His other promotions were on April 8, 22 and May 8.

Memphis is off Wednesday, with its roster replacements for both Brebbia and Jack Flaherty (promoted to St. Louis on Tuesday) yet to be announced.
