Do we have any idea who the umpires will be for the Yankers/Doyers World Series?
Don’t tell me, let me guess. Laz Diaz and C.B.Bucknor will be two of them?
It’s my best guess that the umpires for the WS will be selected from a list of the top 10 executives at DraftKings and BETMGM…
If they pick the umpires this year like they did last year, it will be from the list of umpires who worked the 2024 Divisional Series round. That list includes:

Rob DrakeThe moment I saw Carlos Torrez behind homeplate for Game #1 I knew it was a bad decision. Not sure who made that decision but it became obvious very early in the game he wasn’t very good.
We might have been better off with Angel Hernandez behind the plate.
Yeah, he made two horrible ball/strike calls on the the first two pitches from Cousins to Edman in the 10th to place Tommy way down in the count 0-2. Both pitches were off the plate. The first was low and way off the inner portion and the second was up and off the outside portion. Torrez effectively handed Cousins an advantage off of both sides to place Eddie way behind at 0-2. It was really bad and at that point I thought Edman was done. He deserves a lot of credit for shortening up to make solid contact and product a base hit. If he doesn’t, chances are Freemen never stands in during that 10th inning.
Umps making a mess of balls and strikes is the norm. It’s what they do, they’re human. It can’t be easy, you got to give them that. Regardless of what you think about using technology, I think it’s 100% certain it would be more consistent than humans. That would be worth a lot to me.
No question their job isn’t easy and that they almost always do an outstanding job. I also think you’re right that consistency would be the foremost benefit of automaton HPU’s. I’m not necessarily an advocate of placing a gadget behind HP, but I have to acknowledge that ball/strike calls would be decided in accordance with a more uniform strike zone. Unless, of course, the darn thing was programmed subject to the wishes and whims of BetMGM and DraftKings…Haha!
