Yeah, one thing about searching through history, you usually find that most of what happens today has happened, or at least been proposed in the past.
That crazy thought about maybe rotating two teams to the other league every year was a wild one. There seemed to be a consensus from most GMs back in 1964 that interleague play would come about much sooner than it did. But MLB has always been slow to change, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
Yeah, the rotation proposal is really over the top, but illustrates just how far out there it can get when elite minds convene with the intent of formulating a recipe for a better way. This sort of thing takes place on the Senate and Congress house floors of the U.S. Capitol building all the time…Haha!
I absolutely detest cross league play – and now that every team plays every other team the intra division rivalries are watered down. I believe there are only 13 games against each division opponent now?
I think it’s dumb. The league created a balance issue with cross league play and instead of eliminating it they doubled down and expanded it.
I think having more than 1 wildcard team is dumb. The three division winners and then the best 2nd place team is fine to have 4 playoff teams per league.
It’s always about money as in more of it but if you will notice – just like all levels of govt – no matter how much money they have it is never even nearly enough.
