    I recall reading in an issue of Baseball Digest years and years ago that Ted Williams said there wont ever be another .400 hitter due to night games and the increased use of the slider.

    So, when did pitchers start to throw the slider? Has it been around since Abner Doubleday invented the game? Did it start in the 1920s? 1940s?

    Whats the history of the slider, anybody know?
