Do we have a concensus on when games need to start at the latest? In other words, what is the last date that games could possibly begin and some semblance of a 2020 season be salvaged? Granted there would need to be probably three weeks of spring training before that as well.
So, would July 10th be a good do-or-die date? If spring training hasn’t started by July 10th and games therefore havent started by August 1st would it be safe to say there is going to be no MLB this year?
What is the do-or-die date here, the latest things could get started?

May 19, 2020 at 6:17 pm #129023If the delay carries on too long, maybe they could shift to a World Baseball Classic type of event or an NCAA tournament type event with pool play/short series, maybe leading to a final four (LCS and World Series). You definitely would not need as much calendar time. You could start “spring” training as late as August and run the event though early November. Each game would be a high-leverage event that would make for premium TV. Seems like there would be good bang for the buck for the millionaires and billionaires.

jj-cf-stlParticipantIs there a risk of a “cheap” championship if they only play say 54 regular season games, one-third of a season? In hindsight should / would that championship be viewed any differently over time?

ParticipantEuro has an excellent idea, but IMHO if they can’t get 81 regular season games in it wouldn’t be good.
May 20, 2020 at 1:41 pm #129042Some sort of tournament, or short-season followed by a tourney might be a way to at least get some games in and have a champion.
At this point any type of season that is put together will have a champion that will be historically thought of with a grain of salt, or an asterisk if you will.
But then in the modern era of big money, which means some sort of post season tourney, most any champion that was not a team with their league’s best record could be thought of as tainted.
June 2, 2020 at 7:53 pm #129661Well, we are now into June. And I don’t see anything set in stone yet. Seems like the season is rapidly slipping away.
Anybody got any inside scoop on a possible season?
