And I don’t like those powder blue uniforms. I think it was unanimous on this board that they aren’t liked, period. But if its just Saturday road games I guess I can tolerate them.

So this is actually a double-change, as they are going with the “St. Louis” uni’s on the road for the first time, plus the powder blue. Obviously the revenue-generation potential drives the change.
I am okay with this, since it will be solely used on Saturday games. Kind of a different look that brings in some historical-styled uniforms. Definitely do not want to wear these all the time, but once a week on the road is fine.
Trash those blue powder puffs!! They repulse me and are an embarrassment for the team. Note: the Peoria uniforms also.
Try the 1903 uniforms…. the ones with the jersey collars. I think that they would sell better than chosen chosen for 2019.
I personally don’t mind the powder blue uniforms. I would have preferred they be a sunday home game thing rather than an away uniform. I do prefer the regular ones so wouldn’t want them to go blue the whole time. on the subject of uniforms and such. why is it that you cant find a Harrison bader shirt or jersey on the st louis store site. sure you can create one but when they already have goldy as well dejong especially, it makes zero sense.
What’s with the powder blue fascination?? Maybe I just haven’t looked close enough, but I do not recall seeing any blue cardinals flying around out there. You don’t see the Blue Jays decking out in crimson red uni’s do you? I would think our organization would want to steer clear of having it’s players be represented by any color remotely similar to it’s arch rival’s main hues. What next….off pink uniforms for Wednesday night games? Smaragdine colored for Sunday day games?
At the time those powder blue uni’s came out, they were considered a bit more attractive road uniform than the traditional gray. There was a transformation in baseball uniforms in the ‘70s, towards more “hip” style designs, which brought in more color and variation. Then in the early ‘90s it seemed to reverse, and Many teams went back to their traditional look.
The Cardinals have only made subtle changes, and have limited their variations to specific days. I do not mind the powder blue road uni’s once a week, but they need to keep this stuff to a minimum. Teams like the local nine (Rockies) have so many variations that they really do not have a standard uniform, which I don’t like.
What bothers me probably more than uniform variations is the way they are worn. Today it is either the long pants style, which looks like the player is wearing pajamas, or the overly-high socks style, which looks like 19th century golfing attire. The most professional and sharp look was the ‘50s-to-early-‘60s look, where the pant leg was usually just below the calf.
That style has not come back, although it will someday as everything eventually comes around. The first departure started in the late ‘60s with the high stirrups. Then the “pajama” look came around in the ‘80s and has stayed popular to this day, with a slow evolution to the overly-high pant legs we see some guys favor.
Another style I dislike which you see here and there is the slanted cap look. Looks stupid – very non-professional. More like the little kid who has not grown up enough to know how to wear a cap. Sort of the “Levae It To Beaver” look.
I don’t mind the high pants but the striped socks look flat out silly resembling hockey leggings. They should use one color, red or blue socks…. more professional.
I’ll repeat what I stated earlier, IM0 shirts with real collars would look great.
I mean the Saturday alternate is for Saturday only at home and the Sunday is only meant for the road. So I guess it’s not too bad.
I’d like to see an alternate for Double headers. You only do those once or twice a year.
I get people don’t always like change but the goal is to sell merchandise and expand the brand.
I liked those Pale Hose uniforms but they were much better when all black.. . Thanx for putting up the previous post. Cool. Hey how about putting “CARDS” on the STL caps ala the “SOX” in this picture? How’s that for change. White letting on blue caps.
ps. my favorite uniforms were the Padres when they used the light brown shirts and pants. I can’t remember if they used them both home and away. Or how about the shiny white uniforms the Braves used, meant to stand out for early TV. They can be seen at Cooperstown, in the nicer part of New York State.
well pugsleyadams im not trying to be smart but they already have a lot of variations on the uniforms for specific times. they have the green hats and such to represent st patricks day, they have camo uniforms to represent military as well, pink hats and such for cancer awareness. you don’t see the cardinal in those colors either. doesn’t hurt to have different uniform variations as long as they don’t over do it. while I prefer they keep the traditional colors for the most part, it doesn’t hurt that they bring powder out of retirement. a lot of people do like that color even if some don’t.
You’re a cool guy, ’82Willie…..no offense intended in your direction. But isn’t it bordering on the sacrilegious for our management to be decking out the players in any variant of the color blue……the same color of our arch enemies. I guarantee you that Theo would laugh hysterically at the notion of the cubbies wearing any color that even started with the letter “R”. Unfortunately, I think Theo gets it. I have nothing against the team trying to hawk merchandise….but by God avoid the color blue! There are plenty of other attractive colors to toy around with.
The Notth-Siders do feature red in their color scheme. For a few years there they had those red-billed road hats.
They are basically a blue-and-red color franchise.
We haven’t had a uniform thread in a while. Prior to the 2021 season this happened.
