Siani is the safe and sane move. But what the heck, pull the pin on Scott and dive for cover.

Scott might generate a little buzz and sell a few tickets to offset the Bally’s debacle. I mean if Victor Scott is truly the best option we have so be it but it sure seems like a desperation move if they actually do it.

Yes, it is a desperation move. On a par with hiring Lynn and Gibson.

We know Winns’ rookie status mattered, and he accumulated 45 service days (0.045) last season.

Scott likely has the same limits, if you will, but service time doesn’t care whether it’s the first of, or last of the season.

Mo knows Scott can be April/May option, without ruining his rookie status. But, does he want to give up Scott helping the last 45 days down the stretch……

Still time to find a guy. Or go with Siani.

Looks like Mo got caught with his pants down yet again.

In what way? By trading TO? Lmao!

Nah, by assuming Edman would be back and ready to go for 2024.

So one injury wipes out the starting CF and the back up SS.

Even with a healthy Edman what happens if Winn just craters offensively and Edman simply has to play there? Now your outfield is thin.

So now Mo has pulled Crawford off the scrap heap to shore up SS and Carlson – a guy that can’t hit RHP is your starting CF.

The Nootbar injury just compounds things in the OF hopefully only for the short term.

The ‘pants down’ comment referred to Edman’s wrist. The ‘again’ part refers to last year’s starting rotation debacle.

I don’t care what Carlson did last year. He is a good player and needs to be given an

I think Carlson will be the starter opening day. It’s the Cardinals history to give guys every opportunity to regain value or earn their contracts. If not, I would expect him to be traded/ push a trade when Edman gets back.

you never know what goofy things the POBO will do Walker was not ready last year and that was a big part of the terrible start the team got off too,it seems the POBO fancies himself as the smartest person in any room, but he is really bad at roster construction.

Wally, Walker didn’t struggle to open the season (98 ops+). The FO PR was, they wanted to reset the OF, define the roles, etc., so they demoted him.

Walker missing May was about gaining an extra season of control. The FO traded Walkers 2023 May, for his FA season of 2029. Walker is now a 2030 FA.

We need to remember ending April 10 games out at 10-19. They had to do something. So they demote a guy who just had an impressive hitting streak to tip off his career, and demoted the catcher they just signed to a multi-year deal. The season was a fiasco from the start.

The shenanigans with Walker and Contreras were foolish but irrelevant in the big picture. Even if we had manager Walter Alston, bench coach Bruce Bochy, and pitching coach Dave Duncan they weren’t winning with that train wreck of a pitching staff.

I’d say both instances were extremely relevant in the sense that they clearly illustrated the depths that the leadership of this team is entirely willing to sink in an attempt to remove the focus away from their own failures and place them on others. It demonstrated the type of integrity typically attributed to hungry Sidewinders…

One thing certain about Edman is that when he returns and begins to reach base, he’s going to deploy a running game that is tremendously successful. In his career Tommy’s collected 106 SB’s while only being CS 17 times. Rarely is he ever thrown out when he decides to take off.

Edman just cannot seem to catch a break. Individually, the setbacks always seem relatively minor, but they keep snowballing. He hasn’t even played in the field yet.

Regarding Edman, dang!! Guy can’t catch a break. The Cards need him and I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for him.

Has anyone thought about anything Edman related besides when will he finally return to the ML active roster? I hadn’t, so I decided to yesterday with no game action to occupy my thoughts. Nothing profound, but this is what I came up with.

He’s on a two year contract. $7M this year and $9.5M in 2025. For the Cardinals that is full time regular money, not bench money and not part timer money. Given the rest of the roster, I assume he will still be used as an outfielder. So, a full time outfielder. I kind of doubt a guy who put up OPS+ 91 last year will DH too much, but who really knows. I am not that comfy with him holding together playing center field every day. I am also not that comfy with trading a regular at the deadline, thinking Edman makes one too many, because durability will not have been established by then. I also noticed we are 3 years removed from his GG, and two years from his big WAR season.

Roster choices have been discussed already, but briefly, unless someone else goes down, it will be one of Siani, Crawford or Carp, and the decision does not have to based upon on field considerations only.

Edman feels like a guy they could have tried to extend beyond free agency a few years ago, but as of right now, he looks like he might move on after his contract is up. His 2025 will have some impact on that. But if he is too good, he might price himself out of the Cardinals comfort zone.

He could be an off-season trade candidate, except his value is lower right now due to his health. If he finally gets back and performs well in August and September, they will probably want to keep him for 2025. It isn’t as if any of the Memphis options, outfield or infield (sorry Dunn fans), are pushing Edman off the roster. But his rising salary eventually could (ref. Kolten Wong).

This spring I had imagined him healthy and playing as our starting CF, with a GG in his pocket, and being the next Bader bringing us the next Montogomey, Obviously that is out.

A lot of unknowns with Edman right now. All of a sudden he is “Ty O’Neill II”.

It seems he would have to come back strong in ‘25 with a 4 WAR type season in order to stick with the Cardinals after the contract is up. And in doing that, as Brian said he may be priced out of their comfort zone. But that will also depend on whether or not other candidates have emerged.
