Arnold in this one.BPA Whomever that may be. My prefererence would certainly be elite pitching. We’ve found out the hard way through the years the cost. Much smarter to add everyday players as needed to shorter term contracts and develope pitching. I’m pumped whoever it is. If we don’t mess up, the future is bright.
I’ll have to agree to disagree with KCB on the draft philosophy. I would avoid pitchers unless they are a full level above the best available hitter. Pitchers work loads are reducing as teams have found they get more production out of a by committee approach. Pitchers also have much higher injury risks.
Out of the top 10 players in WAR this year, how many were pitchers? 0 by bWAR and 1 by fWAR, with that one being Chris Sale at #10 with .1 edge over Ketel Marte.
Lopsided totals every season, by wars design. Not like position player vs pitchers are equals to begin with.
I stated you take best player available. If it’s a pitcher, imo, that’s good. We arent going to be paying big $ for elite starting pitching. Look at the deals being handed out. Plus the heightened health risk for pitchers. You have to draft and develope those guys moving forward.

There’s no argument that everyday players are more valuable than pitchers. But you need a lot more pitchers. Pallante was our only starting pitcher that wasn’t a free agent last year. We need more coming out of our system.
