Coming into 2017, the future of Yadier Molina with The St. Louis Cardinals was in question, but soon a new three-year extension was in place that may be the catcher’s last contract as a player. Still, some unrest followed.

You know it was a bad year when…
MLB.com’s top five “defining moments” of the Cardinals 2017 season includes the Rally Cat.
Not surprisingly, they left out the embarrassing conclusion, when the team was accused of bullying by the animal shelter with possession of the cat, which they refused to turn over to the Cardinals. So after the team’s marketing department predictably hopped all over it to quickly schedule a Rally Cat Appreciation Day, the guest of honor was nowhere to be found.

My yearly recap focus was not on defining moments, but if it had, I would have included the late September game when Wacha had a 1-0 shutout against the Cubs going into the seventh, but they had no relievers warming up and couldn’t get him out of the game until five runs had scored. That is not the kind of “defining moments” they want to recall, though.
