At this stage it’s relatively easy to guess which teams will qualify for post-season play but I’m feeling a bit like a fortune telling baseball gypsy. And while I never make predictions, especially about the future, in another few days it’ll be high time to offer up my best guesses as to the future events of the ’25 Big League post-season. And since MLB is now part and parcel to the organized gambling syndicates, I’m accepting wagers of up to three hot dogs and four Coca Colas…Haha! Feel free to offer up your own baseball gypsy, expertise visions of future events…
The last couple of wild card spots and division winners are still up for grabs but based on today’s standings here is how I see it playing out. Teams like the Astros, Reds, and Dbacks could still squeak in but they aren’t there yet. I admit some of these picks are rather bold.
AL Wild Card: Guardians over Tigers
AL Wild Card: Red Sox over Blue Jays
NL Wild Card: Dodgers over Mets
NL Wild Card: Cubs over PadresALDS: Guardians over Mariners
ALDS: Red Sox over Yankees
NLDS: Phillies over Dodgers
NLDS: Cubs over BrewersALCS: Red Sox over Guardians
NLCS: Cubs over PhilliesWorld Series: Red Sox over Cubs
A Red Sox/Cubbies WS wouldn’t at all surprise me, gscottar. The large field places odds that would seem to dictate a very good chance of at least one WC team reaching the WS and two participants is far from being out of the question. In the NL, I expect both the Cubs and Brewers to make an early exit and although I think the Phillies and Padres are solid teams across the board, for some reason I expect the Dodgers to win a consecutive NL pennant. Over in the AL, I’d like to envision either the Yankees or Blue Jays to advance to the classic, but I’m going to break with convention and pretend I’m a genuine fortune telling gypsy and say that I clearly see visions of the Mariners representing the AL in the WS for the first time in the history of that not so storied franchise. So, I’ll go with a Dodgers/Mariners WS with the Dodgers dispatching the Mariners in 5 games. Of course my baseball gypsy visions could change depending on what happens in the early rounds…That’s just the way a baseball gypsy like myself operates…Haha!
There’s plenty of action that could be termed very significant today. In the NL, the Reds beat the Bucs in a close 2-1 game at GABP to keep the pressure on the Mets who are just getting underway at Wrigley against the Cubs. A Mets loss would place them in a tie with CIN for the final NLWC. And the Dodgers have already trounced the Dbacks in an 8-0 final which really puts a dark cloud over any hopes of AZ sneaking in to the post-season. Over in the AL the Astros keep their hopes alive and well by winning their game by a score of 11-5 over the A’s. The Tigers lead the Tribe 4-1 in the home half of the 4th in CLE and the Red Sox and Blue Jays are scoreless in the home half of the 3rd up in the great white North. And the Yankees, who are tring to hang on to first place in the ALE are tied at 1-1 with the White Sox in the home half of the 2nd at Yankee Stadium. The Twins beat the Rangers but, other than Bochy, who cares?
Well the reds just won, mets lost. So reds control their destiny. If houston wins tonight. They, the guardians and the tigers will be tied with 2 games to go to decide 2 spots. Im hoping against houston but tigers have pretty much fell apart. Will be a pretty big collapse if they dont make it.
