I apologize if this has been discussed in another thread but I didn’t see a thread dedicated to the Rays in general so here goes:

They Rays are exploring options/plans in playing half of their games in Tampa area and the other half in Montreal within a few years. They are also expecting new stadiums to be built in both cities?

Not only is that crazy, but any city official who agrees to this should immediately be removed. Not only is that just absurd but how are you gonna build an open air stadium in the Tampa area during the summer with the humidity and frequent rain storms?

Not defending the TB owners, but I believe their stated plan is to play the summer games in Montreal and the early/late season games in Tampa.

In my view, it has been proven that MLB in Florida does not work, so the best answer may be relocation of both teams. Building a white elephant stadium for what may only be 41 home games per season won’t work for many reasons, but the veiled threat of losing the team is a known strategy by wealthy owners to squeeze money from municipalities.

If the interim TB-Montreal plan could get off the ground with the current stadiums and no new taxpayer money spent, maybe the Canadians could show enough to get the team full-time.

P.S. If only Jeffrey Loria still owned the Marlins, the fair solution would have been to force him to move his team to Montreal.

There have been a lot of half baked ideas come up lately but I would have to vote this numero uno. The taxpayers of TB and Montreal are going to support building new stadiums for only 40 games per year? Yeah right.

This looks like some kind of desperate hail mary by TB and MLB.

I’m sure the mlbpa will have some say in this wild idea.
