I’ll miss this one. I’ll be at the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant, for my weekly feast. Fish, roast beef, mashed potatoes/gravy, noodles, green beans, dressing, and sweet iced tea. Then some cherry cobbler and vanilla soft serve ice cream for dessert.

I’ll be checking the score on the IPhone. But then again, we are almost at the point that it really doesn’t matter anymore. Or are we?

Without Gray this team is likely 10 games under if you assume his replacement would have 2 wins instead of 4.

I wonder if he wishes he would have signed elsewhere?

I wonder what he wishes when he starts losing decisions 4 – 3, 3-2, and 2-1?

I was unusually hot under the collar last night after Goldy struck out in the 9th. And with no wifey around any longer to keep me in check, I could appropriately vent my frustrations……throwing chairs around the tv room and cussing like a madman and what not. Anyway, it’s a new day and with it’s arrival, a sense of renewed hope regarding our Birds. I’ll harken back to last week when there was a call here for we Cardinal fans to “let bygones be bygones” and start anew in our quest to make 2024 a fondly memorable year of St. Louis Cardinal baseball. This season is not lost yet. We’re only 6 games off the divisional lead and less than that to snag a WC berth. Our pitchers are pitching (minus Matz & Mikolas) and our fielders are fielding. And our hitters cannot hit any worse……and that’s an important aspect. It is a near impossibility that our offense can be any more abysmal than it has demonstrated thus far. It can only improve from this point moving forward. Now let’s let bygones be bygones and get out there today and kick a little Met keester and then rattle off 8 wins in our next 10 games shall we?

Yes it’s Wednesday, meaning two big events. Brian’s podcast and Rat’s trip the buffet line at The Gasthof. Hey Rat, love your choice of din-din venues yesterday. Years ago, I too had din-din at The Schnitzelbank and I recall what I had…..their ribeye and a truly amazing appetizer with their kraut balls. Oh what a one-two din-din punch that would make…..Louisiana corn-fed catfish fiddlers coupled with a big steaming plate of kraut balls. As Rat would say “yum-yum”.

The next 19 or 20 games have the likelihood of sinking this team once and for all by Memorial Day. The teams that are coming up are winning ball clubs playing for something and they’d love nothing more than to kick the dirt on the Cardinals grave.

And 1TD, I gotta disagree with you. The only option isn’t it can only go up from here for the offense. It can stay the same as now or yes it can get much worse now that the primary hitter and only alpha on the team is out for 8 weeks. They lost the only guy that plays with any emotional edge. The two betas they are overpaying can’t put a team on their shoulders and carry them or will them to victory. So yeah, I can see this getting way worse starting with a sweep today.

Things are certainly bad. Last night we finally got some offense, and the pitching stunk. We hit three homers, but each was a solo shot and when we had guys on base we did not hit.

Just crazy things seem to affect this club. But it is not all bad luck. When you are bad for 200 games, you have a bad ball club. It is not just the nonsense management uses as excuses, it’s that our older players are regressing, which is a normal thing. And in addition our young guys have not picked up the slack.

We will see how things go – pretty much need to carry on with what we have for the next two months. One positive in Contreras’ injury is that Herrera will get an extended audition, and to some degree Pages as well.

If this mess is still going on in late June, then as GM I am shopping everyone over 28 years old and working on a 3-5 year plan. At some point management needs to be realistic and stop making excuses.

As long as Mo is POBO there will be no true rebuild. He will keep thinking he’s a couple of moves away from contending for the third WC spot – and that seems to be good enough for the club right now….

That is a weak lineup for sure but then – isn’t just about anything Mo can throw out there weak at this point?

Yes, and then a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar whilst I sit out on the porch area afterwards.

Time to head that way now. I’ll be monitoring the score. For what it’s worth.

Just as I was leaving I decided to check the 1st inning. And I see we are in a rain delay. From what the Doppler Radar shows it might last awhile.

This game’s a scratch. Won’t have to suffer another loss today.

It took 2 hours for 3 cells to pass over us in mid-Mo. Sun shining now.

The lads probably really needed today to regroup after the Contreras injury last night.

Brewers series coming up is likely to be brutal.

The Cubs lost to San Diego 3-0 at Wrigley. Cease and two relievers only gave the Cubs one hit.

Kansas City beat Milwaukee 6-4 at Kaufmann Stadium.

The Angels beat the Pirates 5-4 at Forbes Field.

The Reds host the DBacks tonight at Crosley Field.

Hmmm, that Gorman for Cease trade that Bob Reed would have done, assuming the White Sox complied, might have been a good one.

But somehow you sense that had Gorman been dealt, he would be sporting a sparkling 155 OPS+ right now with 8 homers and 27 RBI.

Yeah, either that or they’d convert him to a pitcher and he’d place 329 W’s into the books.
