Also BS South and Southwest ExtraWell, looks like interest is waning in the 2024 season. No posts on this thread yet.
However, this could be an interesting game. Facing Skenes with nothing on the line might be worth watching to see how things play out.
Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for this one tonight. Along with a couple of 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars.

I will never understand Ollie hitting Burleson at 2 and Donovan at 5. You put the better on base guy lower in the order, and more of a run producing slot, and the better power guy in what is more of an “on base” slot.
A small thing, but do this and make odd pitching changes and before you know it, you are compromising the skills of your players to the point of where you are costing your club 2 or 3 games.
There’s nothing there to understand. It’s entirely incoherent, Bikemike. I’ve become conditioned to expect nothing but the illogical and unsound.
Stop trying to understand what they are doing, Mike. The offense is horrible because they don’t know what they are doing. Donovan was a great top of the order hitter. .394 OBP. But the Cardinals didn’t like that his OBP was higher than his SLG, so they hooked him up with a guru or something to optimize his swing and dial in the launch angle. So now we have just another down in the order hitter. One more hitter they screwed up.
Yeah, I guess that’s it. Like last year when the reigning MVP and run producing machine Paul Goldschmidt was used like an “on base” guy.
Heck, Ted Williams would get on base 50% of the time some years. Our manager would have him lead off!
All it took was one glance at the lineup on Oct. 7 of ’22 and you knew something was genuinely askew. Then you watched in horror as he allowed an injured closer to remain situated on the pitcher’s mound long enough to hand the baseball game over to the opposition. At that point I was entirely convinced that lunacy had taken over the reins of power.
Im pretty burned out. Theres some guys I just don’t want to watch play anymore. I don’t want to watch Oli manage anymore.
That playoff game took me back to thoughts of Matheny’s mishaps managing against the Giants in the 2014 post season. He did much the same thing.
Sparse crowd tonight even with Skenes going. This one might see the youngster throw a perfect-o.
Yeah, this season’s edition became wearisome a month before the break and then really deteriorated to the point of incredibly mundane. At any rate, I’m still looking forward to watching several quality Big League baseball teams compete in the post-season. Despite the fact that my favorite team makes it’s home less than 20 miles from where we live, I’m still a baseball fan first and there will always be baseball outside of StL.
Call me a sore loser, Dom. I miss very few innings of the Cardinals during the course of the season. When the seasons over, I am done. JFTR I knew I was seeing greatness right from the start with AP. I only missed a handful of his atbats either on tv or radio when he was a Cardinal. I about threw up the first time I saw him in that clown suit they called an Angels uni.
Yeah, KCB. He was something else altogether and we were lucky to have seen him man up at 1B for our favorite team. He’s the best RH’ed hitter that I’ve ever seen stand in a batter’s box and I saw both Mays and Aaron when they were still productive and dangerous. No one destroyed the baseball quite like the great Albert Pujols.
What about Motter?
Agreed. Pujols was the best I ever saw as well. Such quick hands that could adapt to anything.
Yeah Rat, you can hear a pin drop around these game threads these days. I’ve never watched so few mlb games as I have here in 2024, other than when I was a kid where the only show in town was the Saturday afternoon game with Gowdy, Kubek and Garagiola. What’s not to like about Kitty? I’ve been saying all year that the man needs to be inked to a club friendly 2 year deal……year 2 being a club option. Well we only have two starting pitching slots set for 2025……Sonny at #2 and Pallante at #3. Mo has his work cut out for him this winter.

Skenes is 10-3. We’re responsible for 2 of those L’s. That’s something I guess.
The season is boring because the team is mediocre and because the offense scores so few runs. Plain and simple. It is no fun to watch players continually strike out or pop out or weakly ground out with runners on base. And other than get a new hitting coach and change our approach, I don’t think there’s a lot else we can do about it because the position players are likely to be similar in 2025.
I keep trying to explain to everyone that Manny Motter was multidimentional…His overall value to a team can’t be assessed in the same manner as a player such as Musial, Gibson or Pujols. There’s not enough space or time on here to go into any lengthy detail in regards to a potent baseball weapon such as Motter other than to repeat that he’s a 5-fool player who’s first name happens to be Manny! That always helps…
