Also BS Southeast and Southwest ExtraAugust 28, 2024 at 8:51 am #265779I would say we need to win this game but we really don’t.
Only teams that can make the playoffs or are jockeying for position need to win.
August 28, 2024 at 1:33 pm #265799Haha…Yeah, the immense pressure’s been lifted!

C Pedro Pages RAugust 28, 2024 at 4:33 pm #265821Yep, we are at a point where it does not matter much. More than wins or losses we need to assess what we may have next year. I think you play out the string with younger guys every day and get a glimpse into what they might bring, and where you might need to reinforce.
August 28, 2024 at 5:06 pm #265827Did we just promote Mathews?
August 28, 2024 at 5:42 pm #265832I don’t know about all that, Bikmike. I just saw a headline that proclaimed, “Herrera confident, ready to help Cards make a playoff push.”
August 28, 2024 at 5:44 pm #265833Anyone think Mike Schildt will lift his boot to allow the Cardinals any air? Me neither…
August 28, 2024 at 6:32 pm #265834It is a situation of conflicting goals as Marmol wants to win in order to keep his job, and the players always want to win. But there comes a point where you have to admit that things are not working this year, and how do we get things together next year.
Right now it is not only bad here, but two rival teams are on the upswing. The Cubs have crawled off the deck and are over .500, while the Royals have pulled even with the Guardians for first place.
August 28, 2024 at 6:39 pm #265835Shildt wants to win games like all managers do. A couple reasons he may not want to take the foot of the pedal is the tightly contested contest for the 1st WC that allows them to host home games and the 3 games out they are in the NL West.
If him I’m not worried at all about beating my ex team. They are the enemy like all the teams in front of them in the standings.
August 28, 2024 at 7:00 pm #265836Cards play sloppy baseball…that’s on Marmol. We were once a team lauded for our solid fundamental play. Those days are now history.

jj-cf-stlParticipantEverything they put in play turns into a hit.
August 28, 2024 at 7:16 pm #265838
jj-cf-stlParticipantFifth ground ball is an out.
August 28, 2024 at 8:10 pm #265843Defense-first catcher Pages already has made three bad throws in five innings tonight. They were bad enough that even the BSM boys commented on it. But, hey, the Cardinals pulled ahead.
August 28, 2024 at 8:11 pm #265844
jj-cf-stlParticipantHalfway
3-2 StLAugust 28, 2024 at 8:16 pm #265845Weird on those throws by Pages. He just can’t make an accurate throw tonight. Maybe the ball is a bit slippery with the heat and humidity. 😀
August 28, 2024 at 8:18 pm #265846Maybe he is nervous with Herrera back.
August 28, 2024 at 8:32 pm #265848
jj-cf-stlParticipantThe double steal ruling overlooks the E2 ? Questionable.
August 28, 2024 at 8:32 pm #265849Home team scoring…
August 28, 2024 at 8:34 pm #265850
jj-cf-stlParticipantHandout an ER, rather than an error.
August 28, 2024 at 8:35 pm #265851It’s no surprise that of the countless excuses offered up for failure in any and all endeavors, I’ve never once heard anyone say, “Hey, I loused it up because I was nervous”…Haha!
August 28, 2024 at 9:18 pm #265853It could certainly be a whole lot worse. There’s still three days left before the end of August and the White Sox have lost 102 games. The ’62 Mets lost 120 which is the modern record. Something to strive for…
August 28, 2024 at 9:20 pm #265854Real nice play by the Padre 3B’man. I keep saying we need a guy named Manny…
August 28, 2024 at 9:50 pm #265855Well, back to within a game of even.
August 28, 2024 at 9:53 pm #265856Nice walk off base hit by Arenado. I have to say I was expecting to be let down. It does seem like catcher is an area needing some attention this winter, with Contreras not being and every day option, and being rather fragile anyway. The other thing is we can’t keep using 4 relief pitchers so often.
