stlcard25ParticipantThe offense needs Dejong to start hitting like that again. There are plenty of options of guys who can help carry the offense, and he’s one of them.
July 18, 2019 at 7:58 pm #98461
stlcard25ParticipantRoark upset that he didn’t get a gift call well off the plate. Goldy strides to the plate to face a perturbed pitcher…Roark is missing in the middle of the plate now. Can Goldy take advantage?? Nope…he Ks for the third time in the game, stranding the runners.
July 18, 2019 at 8:17 pm #98465Hit and run through the shift by Wieters followed by a little single to LF by DeJong ties the score. T6th.
July 18, 2019 at 8:23 pm #98466Grand slam by Edman, the first by a Cardinal this season, puts StL up 7-3.
July 18, 2019 at 8:23 pm #98467
stlcard25ParticipantGrand slam Edman!!! 7-3 Cardinals!
July 18, 2019 at 8:40 pm #98468Sounds like the game has turned around. Time for some GOOD defense and please have the bull pen up and ready. It makes me CRAZY when a guy comes out of the pen and can’t make a pitch!
July 18, 2019 at 8:47 pm #98471Man, sometimes Goldschmidt looks absolutely lost at the plate. By July a veteran of his pedigree usually has itgoing.
July 18, 2019 at 8:48 pm #98473
stlcard25ParticipantGant has a 5.40 ERA since the beginning of June with more walks than Ks.
July 18, 2019 at 9:01 pm #98476I trust Gallegos more than any other Cardinal pitchers…..presently.
July 18, 2019 at 9:01 pm #98477Watching the game on mlb play by play. Dang man that pitch to Puig for the liner was right in his hot zone! Who’s calling these pitches?
July 18, 2019 at 9:04 pm #98478The veteran….Wieters.
July 18, 2019 at 9:12 pm #98479Was the pitch thrown to its called location? Without that knowledge, it is impossible to know whether to blame the pitcher or catcher. Catchers make bad calls and pitchers miss location.
July 18, 2019 at 9:13 pm #98480DeJong gets off the schneid (howya like that Pugs?), Gant continues to regress, and just one night after I declared Goldschmidt to have turned the corner, he wears the golden sombrero (with the possibility still to go platinum).
No worries though, the rusty BEARD is patrolling the mound in the 8th with a 3-run lead. It has to be typed with all caps.
July 18, 2019 at 9:15 pm #98481Wieters set up inside. Gallegos hit the location. It was in the strike zone, but didn’t really catch too much of the plate, low and inside. Sometimes they hit ’em.
July 18, 2019 at 9:22 pm #98483Good thing they have the lead because they lost two runners on one play to end the ninth. Bader tried to take two bases on Puig and was easily thrown out at third then Sosa overslid the bag after taking second. The line between aggressive and reckless can be blurry.
July 18, 2019 at 9:23 pm #98484Now there’s some sh***y base running by Bader and Sosa to kill a rally. When you’re as big a liability as Bader has been at the plate, you just can’t be that stupid on the bases.
July 18, 2019 at 9:23 pm #98485Gallegos doesn’t miss his spot very often…..hence the stellar 2019 campaign thus far. I would imagine he’s not shaking Wieters off very often either. I bet the combo of Yadi & Wieters get shook off fewer than any other catcher combo in the league….especially considering the youth of our staff. There has to be a stat for that …… where’s Bobby Reed when you need him?
Love the “schneid” reference, Euro!!
July 18, 2019 at 9:30 pm #98486McLaughlin said Miller “carved him up” in striking out Votto. That was a good way to put it. Miller now has 2 outs in the 9th, runner on first, and Puig up. And gets Puig on a weak grounder to the mound to finish it.
July 18, 2019 at 9:31 pm #98487
stlcard25ParticipantMiller finishes it off for the 7-4 win. The left side of the infield led the way and provided all the RBIs. Nice to get the series opener…now to build on the momentum for tomorrow.
July 18, 2019 at 9:32 pm #98488Miller notches the save……7-4 Birds your fantastic final! My broom is a quarter way out of the closet…….a different closet than my half sister emerged from a good 20 years ago.
July 18, 2019 at 9:33 pm #98489Surprised to see Miller close. Didn’t expect HR from DeJong and Edman. Bad night by Goldschmidt, Martinez, Fowler.
July 18, 2019 at 9:38 pm #98490Great to get the win tonight! 2 1/2 behind the north siders.
Forget my post today about getting a 3b. Let’s just play Tommy everyday. Now will Shildt do that when Carp comes back?
I agree that JMart needs to go. I would rather go with Bader’s .200 avg than watch Jose play in the field. Maybe it is Arozarena time?
It looked to me like Shildt was calling the pitches from the dugout. Wieters kept looking over there.
July 18, 2019 at 9:40 pm #98491Good win Cardinals! Great to see our bull pen pretty much clamp it down with a lead! No last inning scares this time! 7 runs on 10 hits ain’t bad! Only 4 Lob things are looking up! Go Cardinals!
July 18, 2019 at 9:40 pm #98492Diz, the first two batters in the ninth were LHHers, which is why Miller was in there. The first singled, but he dispatched Votto impressively.
July 18, 2019 at 9:45 pm #98493It looked to me like Shildt was calling the pitches from the dugout. Wieters kept looking over there.
Saw that too. Looked like Wieters was signaling to Shildt how he wanted the outfielders positioned.
