Its time for this hot prospect of ours to step up and start performing. I’ll be tuning in after my late supper of hamburgers on the grill, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes/gravy, Mt. Dew, and a cigar. Maybe two cigars to keep me awake during the late innings.

Matt Carpenter to the IL with a lower back injury. John Brebbia is back on the team from paternity list and will take Carp’s spot.

Fascinating how it evolved from a rest day to stomach bug to now lower back injury.

I still wish they would move DeJong down to #5 or #6 in the lineup until he gets going again.

I wonder if Carpenter’s back injury is due to all that weight he felt on his shoulders.

Evidently sitting on the Cardinals’ bench is unhealthy.

Shildt going old school by putting a guy at lead off who is batting over 300. At least he has one of those guys now.

well apparently this mariners pitching staff is the third worst in history coming into the all star break. when you combine that and the fact there seems to be more cardinal fans than mariner fans in the stands, if we don’t hit the cover off the ball tonight, we just might have to call it a day.

Three hits for the Birds so far, including the Jmart homer. They have just the one run thanks to two double plays. Hopefully they can break through a few times more as Flaherty hasn’t been sharp yet.

Flaherty has become difficult to watch. Imagine what the guys feel like playing defense behind him. For a guy who has been billed as a pit bull competitor and likened in that regard to Gibson (at least remotely), he pitches with zero bravado.

yea, Flaherty just is an enigma. 70 pitches and he isn’t through 3 innings.

well Flaherty is right at 100 pitches so you could see that homerun coming. he still has good stuff, just gets into ruts too often. now they are taking him out. doesn’t make a lot of sense. would have been better to start the inning with a fresh pitcher, maybe that homerun doesn’t happen.

This is a small thing but I find it troublesome a guy getting paid to call a baseball game had no idea teams could sign 16-year olds during the international signing period, or that Baseball America still existed.

Maybe take some pride in your new career, Jimmy because that’s embarrassing. I get the average fan not knowing but you’re paid to know these things.

Anyways I say this because i like Edmonds the most out of all the other fill-ins.

That was setting up for a long fly for Seattle.

The 4 AB against Adams exactly sum up how lost and unprepared these hitters are at times.

Well, not a great loss there. Munoz and Jmart did well and the lineup did hit better than they have been, but it was for naught as the predictably poor Flaherty and surprisingly poor Gallegos couldn’t hold it. The easy stretch of the schedule is waning and the team is barely treading water. I’m not sure what more can be done to motivate this team right now.
