Two out of three ain’t bad, i.e., they lost but it was clean and exciting . . . . except when it wasn’t.
Like all of us here, I’ll love this team thru thick and thin…..but boy are these times pencil thin! It’s just not that we are losing, but it’s how we’re doing it. Even from here (The Great State of Wisconsin), it’s crystal clear that even with gamers such as Bader, Brebbia and Ponce in it’s midst, there is no distinguishable fire visible. And for that you have to look at it’s manager straight in the eye. Due to financial and admittance of failure reasons, it’s not going to occur yet, but I think a change in managerial leadership, or lack thereof, needs to be seriously considered….now.
It’s too bad our only legit All-star candidate (Marcell) may now be unavailable for July 9th’s game. Since every team has to be represented, Gant has to be our guy who will be selected. For sentimental reasons Yadi could get the nod, but I think it will be Gant. No way two Cards will be selected.Broken record Cards fan and I am a lifer…total overhaul needed starting with Mo. STALE organization that is going down the tracks for four straight with no playoffs. That is horrid to me.
If you follow the Ozuna video, he is walking quickly with the trainer to the dugout in pain. Shildt meets them along the way… no words, no eye contact. He looked like he was ignored and then followed behind the two with his head down. To me it was bad body language and very strange. Certainly not a managerial reaction. Anybody else pick up on that?
Just checked the BR Cardinal page to see our WAR leaders, and it is clear where the problem is on this club – Paul Goldschmidt. Despite trying to bolster the offense the last two years, we still do not have a solid run producer. Goldy sits at #9 on our club in WAR, behind such guys who tend to get bashed a lot by fans such as Kolten Wong (#2), Dexter Fowler (#5), and even Dakota Hudson, whose recent good outings have him just ahead of fools-Goldy at #8.
But in my drive to make this a 1964 do-over, there is good news. If we can somehow lose another one this evening, the club will be at 40-41, the exact same record the ’64 club had at the halfway mark. Not only that, our first baseman is sitting at 31 RBI, almost the exact total Bill White had in ’64 at this time. I think he had 30, and ended the season at 102.
I think we can make this happen, people! There is certainly the talent on this team to turn things around in the second half. Let’s lose this one tonight, then play at a 53-28 clip from here on out and win the division on the last day, and take our chances in post season!
Now that you brought it up, yes, something did not seem right while viewing that, Nyquist. I just wasn’t able to put 2 & 2 together at the time. Somebody on this team has to be poised to go on a hitting rampage ….. don’t they? With say 14 viable offensive candidates, and all 14 being professionals, one would think after this long a period of futility, that the law of averages would dictate at least one of them could turn it around.

gscottar, I’ve been told by several posters, including Brian, that I’m far too negative. So I’m going to start trying to be more positive and that’s a great point.

i just happened to be in the house for the game last night. Having the bases loaded and no one out and being unable to produce basically sums up the offensive production for this team on the season. I don’t blame Molina for being a big money player. He’s not a big time run producer. Ozuna has produced to an extent. It’s the 2 bozo’s at each corner that are killing this team. They’ve got to get better or this team could very well spin out of control and into the cellar of the central.
