9:10 p.m. RHP Miles Mikolas (7-11, 4.00) vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw (10-2, 2.85) FOX Sports Midwest // KMOX
This could be either the best or worst game of the series. At least it is not another Nolan Ryan type. They know CK well and are in his head so take advantage of it. But, I am not looking for a victory in this series.
I’m afraid it’s going to take a lot more than we’ve got to beat these guys unless we have one humongous stroke of luck. The Dodgers are simply better than we are. Of course there is the “any given Sunday” aspect that football likes to hold forth. But I think we’ll need a week of Sundays. Still, even cellar dwellers win once in a while. Rah Cardinals.
Thanks for the Klondike info Rat. I couldn’t open your link. But I guess they haven’t made it across the Atlantic yet, at least not to deepest southwest France. So I’ll have to stick to Hagen-Daz pralines and cream for the moment.
I’ll be recording this game tonight for my winter fix when I need it. If we aren’t careful we are going to be 4-5 games out in the next day or two. Cubs appear to be on the hot streak that I have been dreading.

The Cards only dominate All Star type pitchers, so they will lay a 5 spot on Kershaw. Expect Matt Carpenter to take him deep at some point.
Hopefully Mikolas can stem the tide of bad pitching by Cards the last couple games.

It’s desperation time for this season for sure. The Cards are really lucky they are still in the hunt for the division and not sitting 8-10 games out just playing out the string.
On paper this looks like a complete mismatch in favor of the Dodgers so I’ll go with the Cardinals to win.
For din-din this afternoon its sausage patties in the air fryer, corn otc, green beans, a Klondike ice cream bar and a Dr. Pepper.
Oh, and I went and bought myself a handgun today. Its a Walther PPK. Going to get the license to carry a firearm. I figure with all these shootings I am going to at least be able to shoot back. I get to Walmart often, along with Home Depot, Rural King, Lowes, etc, etc.

I’m currently eating in the dark as the power went out after a bad storm just came through. Fortunately there are other dinners to keep me company.
Oh, and I went out and bought myself a handgun today.
Lucky guy. My wife told me she’d hit the road if I ever brought a gun into the house….which kind of got me thinking….I love my weekends when she hits the dusty trail with her mother and 3 sisters…..absolutely adore them! What if I just brought the gun into the house on weekends only???
Hey Rat, you should take Wooster’s suggestion and mix your Dr. Pepper with OJ. I don’t think I have the cahonas to.
Historically, we’ve fared fairly well vs Kershaw over the years…..especially in post season play. Even though it’s not the playoffs, I think we hang tough tonight vs this guy. My head tells me 4-3 Dodgers, but my heart tells me 6-3 Birds.
On a good note…..Oakland leads the Cubs 11-0 in the 5th. Assume the A’s will hang on here.

well like some have said, we generally handle Kershaw well. gonna have to have a better pitching effort tonight. of course we got to hit better to.
After a nice at bat with a sharp single down the 1B line, Marp makes a poor base running blunder by not picking up the bunt single that goes over Bellinger’s head.
Cards get the lead and Mikolas immediately gives it back. Doesn’t help the defense was out of position that allowed a single to turn into a double. Way to hunker down.
Here’s the base running and throw out of Carpenter. Make up your own mind if he should have picked the ball up better.

When the ball went past Bellinger’s glove, he was 1 step away from the ball. He actually looked a little slow turning back to go to the ball. Bellinger made a good play by getting to the ball and making a good throw. Carpenter was in a no-win situation. I would love to know how you would look at it if he took off for 2nd and the ball was caught.
Carpenter seems to be aggressive in his ABs tonight. Swung (or attempted to bunt) on the first pitch in both ABs.
