Working tonight’s Rockies game August those red hot Marlins. Those ‘Lins had the best record in MLB in June.
No din-din tonight; have my game snack ready of an apple, grapes and a granola bar. Will have the usual late night bowl of Raisin Bran when I get home.

The Cubs squeaked by the Padres today. 23-3 your final at Wrigley. They swept the Padres. The Padres now go to the Doyers for a four game set. And, of course, we go to Wrigley for a three game 4th of July weekend series. Something tells me I know how that is going to turn out.r/Esteemed Rat

C Jimmy Crooks LCubs are getting hot again and might put us essentially out of any realistic division title hopes this weekend, if we aren’t already, and dampen our wild card aspirations.
The Cardinals have sunk to within less that 2 games above sea level on several occasions this season. They’ve never been below the waterline and have been situated at .500 four times, one of those times being on opening day. On the three occasions in which they’ve come precariously close to the waterline, they’ve responded very well. When the angle of list neared the point of urgency, they’ve reeled off 6 consecutive W’s on two occasions. The third time saw them scratch out 5 W’s in row. And with the W on Monday, they’ve yet to lose more than 4 consecutive games all season long, which is a claim that neither the Brewers or Cubbies can make. What I’m driving at is that this young baseball team has not only been very resilient, but also consistent. In any case, they’ve now won two in row to lift them back to 6 games over even. I’d say, that without any question, this stretch of 12 games before the break will provide a genuine tell in regards to the team’s ability to compete over the course of 162 games, but I’m guessing that if this season’s baseball team can piece together a reasonable amount of success in these 12 games, they’ll be a dangerous group of youngsters during the latter half of the season. Confident, young and hungry is almost always a formidable force.
We have been kind of lucky as our run differential is negative, yet we have consistently stayed above .500. The Red Stockings are similar to us on run differential and are 9 games under break even. But then the Guardians and Rangers are also similar and both a bit over .500. If our bullpen can continue to be effective I think we can stay at least around .500, but realistically we need to start scoring more than we give up if we expect to hang with the big boys.
There are some scattered showers just to the west of Atlanta over in the eastern Alabama area. Watching the Doppler Radar at the moment and I can’t tell if they will impact the game or not. Stay tuned I guess.
I can’t disagree with that, Bikemike. The crux of the proverbial biscuit in regards to the run differential oddity is probably that the Redbirds are 7-2 in extras and 15-11 in one run games. Obviously they’re on the plus side in runs scored in those games which, in my view, are the sort of games that afford the lion’s share of genuine insight as to the overall character of a baseball team. I’d also have to say that the nice W/L record in close and extra inning games is the direct result of 21 SV’s from the Bogsider who, in my estimation, has been the linchpin. They’ve also played reasonably well on the road which, I think, is of primary importance, especially for a young team. In any case, we’ll probably know all we need to know before that flashy tater contest that they’re holding in Philly in a couple of weeks.
Boy, those Cubbies pushing across 23 runs for the W today against SD is impressive. I can recall several games in the past when they scored over 20 runs and lost…
Those Yankees are really leaking a lot of oil. They’ve now lost 7 consecutive games while the Rays have reeled of 6 consecutive W’s. Wrong place at the wrong time to be wearing pinstripes.
In regards to consistency, I neglected to mention that the Cardinals, with the exception May, have a winning record every month this season. The month of May was a push at 13-13.
McGreevy made quite a few pitches in the 2nd that were impressive to say the least. The 2-2 fast ball that he snuck in there to Smith for the called 3rd strike tells me Mike has a good idea of how he wants to work to a hitter and then that 0-2 sweeping curveball down and away to get Riley to chase on the swinging K. In any event, not everyone has to throw it through a brick wall to record an out. Sometimes all it takes to consistently record outs is to actually pitch.
Long way to go for Masyn to squeeze that one for the final out of the 5th. Real nice effort to make the play.
McGreevy’s 17th turn is another nice one so far after 6 innings of work. At 3-6 to go along with a 3.15 ERA he hasn’t got much in return for his good work this season. Hopefully the Cardinals can push a couple of runs across before his evening’s through.
I will be retiring some day and I am thinking of a second career as a soccer, I mean football hooligan, so I’ve been watching USA vs Bosnia to find out how it works. They don’t have a lot of pads and no helmets. That is refreshing.
Just checking in on the game. We only have two measly hits! How is that possible?
The Cardinals hit Lopez hard in the 1st inning to push a run across, but then the TBA pitcher placed it on autopilot and cruised through 5. I was happy to see him go after a shade less than 70 pitches, but the Braves BP didn’t allow a solitary baserunner in the final 4 innings. The game was closer than the final score indicates as the Cardinals watched as the entire thing scattered after a Das Boot/E-5 on a potential GIDP in the home half of the 8th. In any case, the bats packed it in after the 1st.
Having the not-so-late night bowl of Raisin Bran and checking the box of our game. McGreevy again not getting any run support.
The Rox-Marlins game was played in 2:09, so I got home earlier than usual.
I see The Blazer made a couple of errors. With that and a .603 OPS he’s not exactly taking the third base job by storm.
