Turning the corner into June my baseball expert gypsy has looked into his crystal ball and named all 6 division winners at season’s end…

    NLC Brewers
    NLE Phillies
NLW He’s reasonably certain it’ll be the Dodgers.

    ALC Indians
    ALE Yankees
    ALW Astros

His crystal ball doesn’t afford any credibility to a WC, but he says it won’t make any difference because the Dodgers win their 3rd consecutive WS…Probably in 4.

Freddie Freeman must have had some catfish fiddlers on Friday. He homers in the last of the 9th and the Doyers beat the Angels 1-0 at Doyer Stadium.

Somebody better tell the Astros they are winning the division…

I fell asleep well before the Cincy meltdown last night, but I noticed from the box score/recap that Gorman was pinch hit for — by Jose Fermin. Yikes. I haven’t checked but I guess it was a lefty righty thing. But still, yikes. Both Oli and the matchup algo would have already been well aware of Gorman’s struggles, but now it is considered actionable. Yikes.

Bling, Gorman may be in his last days. The problem is the team doesn’t have another real third baseman. With so many of our starting pitchers being pitch to contact guys, we don’t really want a subpar third baseman. Urias may gain reps when he returns out of default but he is the opposite of the youth movement.

Fermin is not a third baseman. Saggese is not a third baseman. Jordan is not a third baseman. Prieto is not a third baseman. And Torres is not a third baseman. They can all stand there and field balls hit to them, but they either lack the range or the arm or the reps to be Major League playable as a starter. Maybe Ramon Mendoza ends up there? That would be an interesting journey for him. But sometimes it’s a matter of right place at the right time. Jesus Baez or Jalen Flores may be closest for internal options (that could be long term answers) but they are a ways off.

An alternative solution that should be considered, although I’m sure it would not be initially popular, is to move Wetherholt to 3B and play Saggese at 2B. Saggese can handle the 2B defense. Offense is the question mark. He would need to be much better offensively than Gorman to consider such a move. He probably isn’t. Fermin or Prieto could play there too but they are a step down defensively. And with our pitch to contact starters, I don’t want that.

Saggese has probably been the biggest disappointment in the entire team for me. Gorman has done as advertised so I figured Saggese had a good chance to be the starting 3B by June. Instead he flopped and is now in Memphis. Actually his entire season has been bad. He was so bad in the WBC he could barely even get on the field for Team Italy.

Urias is another one who had a chance to be the starting 3B but he has been both unproductive and hurt.

Somewhere out there in the world of baseball, in our system or somebody else’s, there must be a competent third baseman who can hit better than .200. Why can’t we find him and make a reasonable deal? Isn’t that what GMs do?

They don’t have traditional GM’s anymore. If they did, he’d trade for Scott Rolen.

Let’s see if Liberatore appreciates being staked to a 3 run lead.

I’d say the answer is no. 3-3. After a pair of walks.

We have outhit them 7-1 but it is a tie game. That is usually not a good sign.

He seems to have always engaged in philanthropy as soon as he’s handed a lead to work with. Start calling him benevolent Matt.

After being staked to a 2 run lead I was hoping the Red’s pitcher would gift the Cardinals 2 BB’s to begin the home half of the 4th. No such luck.

I think it’s safe to say not only is Liberatore a bust as a potential ace, hes not even an MLB 5th starter. This feels like a disappointing loss after taking a 3-0 lead.

I think you’re wrong on one thing. Liberatore is the definition of a modern day #5. Basically some junk balling lefty who can go 5 innings max. Lol

Thankfully Dobbins ate some inning last night for the full compliment of relievers we can use the rest of the weekend. It appears we’ll need all of them.

When i see Liberatore I see Miles Mikolas…he’ll stick around because management invested a lot in him, but the guy can’t even eat innings consistently. Dobbins looks awesome so far.

I was never a big fan of Mikolas, but he did manage to place 3 seasons in the books while he was a Cardinal in which he worked 200 or more IP’ed.

That stunk getting nothing out of bases loaded no outs.

That’s probably the ball game…even though they are down by one run. It feels like a million due to this inconsistent offense

Yeah, and they burned the second look at a replay of the GIDP on the challenge of the relatively benign CS call.
