After Thursday’s day off
7:15 p.m.
RHP Kyle Leahy (10-4, 3.33) vs. RHP Cade Cavalli (12-5, 3.12)
Cards.TV // KMOX // WIJRNine games left.
Have to go 6-3 to finish .500 on the year.
Have to go 7-2 to end up with a winning record.
With three games left at Milwaukee unlikely either of the above will happen.

CF N. Church LAs was the case last time, MLB.com has Leahy and Rorowire has Hjerpe. I was able to find out it is because Rorowire lists what they think is the primary pitcher if they think the scheduled starter is to be used as an opener. So no confusion, just two different things.
Also, Brian reported Baez to IL and Prieto recalled.
FWIW, the starters I post on these threads come directly from Cardinals Media Relations. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t change, however.
If I get new info, such as the Nats starter tonight, I update the first post.
We’ve seen Hjerpe paired with Leahy enough that it is a good assumption it will continue tonight. Which one throws more innings depends on which version of Hjerpe shows up.
Weather wise the greater metropolitan St. Louis area looks dry for this one.
But here in SW Indiana we have had a lot of rain in the last 90 minutes or so. My gauge says two inches and it is still raining. And according to the Doppler Radar we might be getting more.
Going to jump in the tub and me and Whitey Herdog are going to start the evening with the Cubs and Reds from Riverfront Stadium.

Another bobble by Walker. Didn’t get an error on the first one, but didn’t field it cleanly and it bounced away. This one the runner moves up.
Torres maybe a bit slow getting it back. Hot shot bounder off the wall in the LF corner scores a guy from 1st.

On a good note the Reds down the Cubs 6-4 at Riverfront Stadium.
On a bade note the Mets lead the Phillies 6-3 in the top of the 8th at Shea Stadium.
Bernal a nice job getting the bat on the ball. I’m liking his bat a lot more than the D but we’ll see.
Torres had no chance against this pitcher. Waved at 3 of them. On to the 5th. Our best hope is a freak rainstorm that lasts all night. Or a power failure.
I’ve lived through some stretches of Cardinal baseball that could be termed anywhere from lackluster to lousy, but I guess I’ve become overly accustomed to success during the TLR/Pujols era because these last few seasons of bottom feeder futility have really been a kick in the backside for this Redbird fan. Most of you are probably aware that the close of the ’26 season will mark the longest post-season drought in 30 years, so I’d have to say that it’s a simple case of being cast into an area that’s normally reserved for cubbies fans. It’s dark and gloomy down here…
9-0 going to bottom of 6th. Hjerpe getting pecked to death each inning. A LHB pulled one down the line for an RBI double. Not a good sign if lefties are gittin him too.
I’m thinking they should shut Leahy down. Nothing left. Not sure what to do instead. Anything, I guess.
Walker waved at that pitch he waves at for a K. I think he’s up to about 6 gold chains now. He must clank running the bases. If he trips down the dugout steps it will sound like somebody dropped a drawer of silverware.
