Something tells me that Baez had a big time plate of Catfish Fiddlers before his debut yesterday. That may account for his power surge.
I wonder if Pugs arranged for him to have them before the game?
Over in the AL a total of 4 teams are tied for the final ALWC berth and all 4 of those teams are 3 games under .500. To add insult to injury 2 of those teams, the Blue Jays and Orioles, are tied for last place in their division.

Have not met the Boston Bomber(Joshua Baez)yet, Rat. But I encourage everyone to eat at least 2 helpings of catfish fiddlers a week. Wheaties cereal used to be the breakfast of champions, but catfish fiddlers have surplanted Wheaties for that coveted distinction. You know what if one were to sit down for din-din and devour both a heaping plate of the fiddlers followed by a large bowl of Wheaties? It makes sense that this was exactly the pregame meal that Baez consumed today. I don’t know about you guys, but I know exactly what I’m having for din-din tomorrow.
I’ve watched the replay of the 3 Baez taters numerous times now and what really stands out is the manner in which he attacked all 3 of those pitches from Boyd. He really pounced on the baseball as if he was angry at it without overswinging. I don’t want to get too starry eyed, but it looked to me like the young man’s bat gets started and through the zone in an awfully big hurry. I thought of Sheffield while watching the highlight reels.
There was a clip of one of the homers where it looked like a big long swing like is typical of minor leaguers who put mistakes in the parking lot, but who get owned by ML pitching. Not saying that is what he is, just one look at one swing. The thing that stood out to me is the good eye and swing discipline. I wasn’t expecting that based on what we were hearing and told to expect. The big swing types have to commit early, so it has me kind of confused after 1 game of seeing him.

I believe the Cubs are going with Edward Cabrera today. The righty will probably be a much stiffer challenge for Baez than what he faced yesterday.
Yesterday was a magical moment but I am trying to keep things in perspective. Baez has a lot of talent but he is going to struggle and go through the ups and downs with lots of K’s like Walker did. But at some point he has a good chance of being an everyday LF. Is he going to be the next Aaron Judge with the bat? Probably not but we should still celebrate what he did yesterday because we probably will never see it again in our lifetime.
Looking at today’s teeth of the batting order reminded me that the Cardinals are the only Big League team that have 2 players situated among the top 10 leaders in RBI’s, with Burleson and Walker placed at 3rd and 4th respectively in that category. And although he’s been a little disappointing this season, Herrera, at times, has demonstrated that he has the ability to be a genuine threat with the bat hitting from the 2 slot. And we all saw what the youngster featured yesterday hitting at #5 in his Big League debut. The Cardinals also have a young lead-off man situated among the top 10 leaders in runs scored which, in my view, is the primary consideration when evaluating the success of a player placed in that all important slot in the order. What I’m driving at is that if the Cardinals can plug up a couple of holes and build a line-up around the aforementioned players, it has a good chance to be a formidable one that won’t be any bargain for opposing pitchers.
Yep I mentioned that in my post above. I use The Score App on my phone and they have had Cabrera listed as today’s starter since last night.
Rotowire has been getting slower posting lineups and slower about updating changes to anything. I wonder if it might be getting pinched out by the proliferation of newer wagering oriented sites. I prefer the lineup with the position shown to the left rather than to the right as it is on the mlb site, which is also less forgiving when trying to cut and paste on my phone.
Nice lead – now let’s not let it go. We have blown a 7 run lead this year.

I have to admit that I had not watched much of Báez in the minors. I kept up with the stats and saw a few highlight clips but that was it.
After getting a better look at him at the plate the last two days I have to say that his swing does remind me a bit of Jack Clark. He even shares the same uniform number as The Ripper.
Dobbins good, but the command was a little off. Gastelum does not inspire confidence, but lets hope he can at least keep it from getting scary
I don’t really see Clark in Baez’ swing. He kind of reminds me of Reggie Smith when Reggie was hitting right handed.
Man, two fastballs grooved down the middle and Crooks swung through both. He really has not shown much in his trial at the top level.
Now guys will adjust and come around after a rough start, but you really want to see a little more contact from him.
Carson Kelly was hyped quite a bit coming up and struggled early. But he’s still plugging away in the bigs. Not a star but a decent player.
