DH Ivan Herrera R

SS Masyn Winn R
CF N. Church L
3B Jose Fermin R
LF Bryan Torres LAugust 9, 2026 at 2:22 pm #315715Have the feeling of an empty innjng but Crooks did a piece of professional hitting and SF to make it 2-1. Then another surprise as Winn doubled to make it 3-1.
August 9, 2026 at 2:44 pm #315716When the starter doesn’t give up 5 runs in 5 innings, competing is something different. A couple nifty runs, skillfully manufactured, matter. It is how baseball should be.
August 9, 2026 at 3:32 pm #315717Bruihl since May 1: 41.1 innings, ERA of about 2.50.
Next best was JoJo at 2.89.
After that, surprisingly Ryne Stanek at 3.06. I would have never guessed Stanek in top 3 of anything other than maybe a hot dog eating competition.-

August 9, 2026 at 3:50 pm #315719Yeah most don’t look at the stats. They just wait, hate and hand wring until they do something wrong and whine all day.
McGreevy was left in too long. He was getting hit a bit. Now were tied.
August 9, 2026 at 3:57 pm #315720Wow a sacrifice by Fermin. Better than him striking out and gives us runner on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. LFG!
August 9, 2026 at 4:01 pm #315721And Torres strikes out. 2 out for JJ.

KeepComingBackParticipantThat should help JJ’s roy
August 9, 2026 at 4:05 pm #315723Herrera has been red hot this series. That is very nice to see and should quieten the critcs for a bit.
August 9, 2026 at 4:22 pm #315725Indeed GScottar. And boy do we need it. We basically have Wetherholt, Herrera, Walker, Winn, and Burleson plus some guys after the Nootbaar trade. Fermin has been better than expected, but he’s still only Fermin. Let’s hope Baez hits when he arrives and Crooks finds his hit tool again as well. That could make this group interesting but until then, I’d expect a very hit and miss offense.

KeepComingBackParticipantAnother nice play by Pereira to end the game.
August 9, 2026 at 4:25 pm #315727If JJ and Herrera are both hot at the same time atop the lineup, we should score a lot of runs.
August 9, 2026 at 4:49 pm #315732Yeah the 5-9 spots in the lineup have been dismal for awhile. I question the choice of Crooks batting fifth. I know that Ollie is adamant that we go LH-RH all of the way down the order but Church or Torres would be a better candidate than Crooks.
Even though Winn got a couple of hits today he has been one of the biggest disappointments offensively to me. He is a wild swinger and a dead pull hitter. With his magical glove and cannon of an arm he could be a perennial all star if he had a better approach at the plate. He is starting to remind me of Javier Baez without the power.
I’m not very optimistic about this offense the rest of the year unless Baez comes up and gets hot. Most likely we are going to have to grind out some low scoring wins if we want any chance of staying above .500.
August 9, 2026 at 5:08 pm #315734I’m quieted for a bit on Herrera. He does run pretty fast to catch up with the balls that skip past his glove.
The Rockies desperately need a player development system. It’s as if they draft well and then just sit back and watch what happens.
The Rockies did build themselves a beautiful stadium. And, if I’m not mistaken, the Owners paid for it themselves.
August 10, 2026 at 7:35 am #315764Cardinals top of the order in today's win vs. Rockies:
Wetherholt: 2-3
Herrera: 4-5
Burleson: 1-4 (HR)
Walker: 2-4Wetherholt: "For us to be the best team that we want to, our top four need to do well — me included."@MatrixMidwest | #stlcards pic.twitter.com/WMWTHe82JI

Herrera is a DH not a catcher. Most everyone but the Cardinal front office are acknowledging it.
The Rockies tried to be the Angels 2.0 for many years but finally hired a real PBO last offseason. I think they are going to get better and better but are in a tough division.
