Boy that was a real scrotum tightener! I’d just about decided to give it up and hit the sack, but hung in there to see Arenado save our bacon and then finally Pozo put the cherry on top (Pls excuse the mixed metaphor).
The unfortunate part was being forced into another one of those idiotic phantom runner endings.

I absolutely abhor the fairy tale make believe baserunner, but if ever there was a time to have that rule in place it’s on a blistering day like today. I’m sure I’m not the only one that can recall several games that lasted upwards of 15 or 16 innings that were played in the sort of heat we experienced during today’s game. I can recall McCarver talking about working some extended overtime hours behind HP during 100 degree day games. It’s not any job for a cupcake.
What’s that old Texas expression: If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
Or, in our situation it might be: If you can’t take the heat, take up hockey.
By the way, it was 37C (99F) here at the foot of the Pyrenees today with more of the same forecast for tomorrow.
Haha!…”Take up hockey.” I’ll take hot fun in the summertime any day over shoveling the driveway in February. Bring on the heat!
I once stayed at a hotel as far north as Hamburg during a rare heat wave. The hotel wasn’t equipped with any AC, but the desk clerk was kind enough to provide this delicate guest with a fan…It was hot in that hotel room!
That’s 5 consecutive W’s which is the second longest winning streak of the season. If the Cardinals can pull off a sweep in tomorrow’s game, they’ll have entirely offset the 6 game losing streak that occured earlier this month. That was the longest string of losses of this season. In any case, this team has shown that it’s not only resilient, but can also avoid the dreaded extended string of losses that can bury a team. The reality is, that even though we’re only at the tail end of June, this edition has looked like a reasonably solid baseball team. I can only speak for myself, but I’m highly surprised.
Yeah, especially for the Reds who used a total of 6 members of their BP today to the Cardinal’s 5. All total, the two teams worked 15 different pitchers today. Helsley only worked 14 pitches, so he’ll work tomorrow if the Cardinals own a slim lead in the 9th. King only worked 3 pitches today and Romero saw no action at all, so obviously they’re both manned up at general quarters and available. And Leahy also has a fresh right arm for tomorrow’s game. In any case, hopefully the Cardinal bats can light up the board early and often, which would probably be a good idea with Mikolas taking his turn…Haha!
