This series looks like it will be Liberatore vs Leiter game 1, Gray versus Corbin game 2, and then Fedde vs DeGrom game 3. Games 1 and 2 are much more winnable and I expect a loss with that pitching matchup game 3. At least it is a joy to watch a healthy DeGrom pitch.

The Rangers offense hasn’t been nearly as good as expected with Semien and Garcia having downturns with Seager being hurt a good amount.

I was looking at some baseball stuff that was concerned with attendance around the league in AL cities and I happened up on something that I vaguely recall. I was astonished when I was reminded that over 4 million baseball fans in Toronto showed up to see the Blue Jays for 3 seasons in a row from ’91 to ’93. They also clicked the turnstiles 3.8 million times in ’90. Now, I understand that the Yankees and Dodgers draw a lot of baseball fans, but that’s a lot of ticket stubs for a Canadian city. And while I’m on the subject of Canadian cities, I’ll once again say that I miss the Expos…

I was working in Toronto during those glorious years and was among those frequently clicking the turnstiles at the Skydome during the great 92 and 93 World Series wins, the only ones the Blue Jays ever had.

I saw quite a bit of Expo baseball too on my frequent trips to Montreal.

Attendance to me is always a catch-22. If they lowered prices by say half, would attendance double? If not, business-wise, it doesn’t make sense. I’m sure there is a metric they track to optimize seats taken vs cash in, and that metric has improved immensely since the early 90s.

They are already offering very aggressive promotional pricing, even for summer weekend games which regularly sold out in the past.

“I’m sure there is a metric they track to optimize seats taken vs cash in…”

Pads: Would that same metric be able to take into consideration the quality of baseball? Or would that even matter?

And the Yankees and Dodgers game on Friday night is that STUPID APPLE TV GAME!!!

I was really looking forward to watching this one since Fried is pitching but now I won’t be able to.

I am so sick and tired of those STUPID APPLE TV GAMES!!!

Looks like another late Friday night episode of Barnaby Jones is coming up.

Hey Rat, if you can’t beat em…..join em. Apple TV is only $10 a month. Besides baseball, they have shows like Ted Lasso for your viewing pleasure too. You may want to strongly consider taking the plunge. Glad to see you’re still on the lam……..always wise to stay 2 steps ahead of law enforcement.

I don’t think there’s any question that lowering ticket prices and offering up reasonably priced concessions would be an attractive incentive for the guy who’d like nothing more than to take his gang of kids to an occassional baseball game and also satisfy their hunger for a hot dog, a soda pop, an ice cream or even a cheap sounvenir without spending as much money as he does on his monthly car or truck payment. However, it’s been my experience that the only fool proof way to consistently pack baseball fans into a ballpark is to field a winning team. I think it’s the same as anything else in the sense that people will always pay a premium for a quality product.

I just now noticed that this game will be a televised broadcast available on KMOV which is the local CBS affiliate in StL. I’ve been led to understand that to receive over the air broadcasts these days it’s not as easy of a proposition as simply having the ability to pick it up over the air with a set of rabbit ears, but at least some of the folks who don’t have pay TV will be able to see a game in their home without having to pay what amounts to another utility bill. In the days of yore no home games were available on TV, but over the years various local TV affiliates would routinely broadcast 25 to 30 road games a season and I seem to recall that most of them were on weekends. They’d also sometimes change their schedule and leverage a particularly important Cardinal game into their programming lineup. A couple of those spur of the moment local affiliate TV broadcasts that immediately come to mind were during the late season NLE race between the Cardinals/Mets in ’85. I also recall that the brewery ownership made an exception and allowed a couple of home games that were possible clinchers to be televised. In any event, I always got along just fine without having to ante up to watch television and without feeling as though I had to have a telephone tattooed to my hip pocket.

    Pugs?
The Great Gravel Heist #3 was an unmitigated success last night. That might do it for awhile now..:)

And din-din today is indeed a CCFF. As soon as I hit Enter I am heading to the Amish restaurant out on the lake for some catfish fiddlers, mashed potates/gravy, noodles, baked fish as well, sweet iced tea, a piece of cherry pie, and some vanilla soft serve ice cream. Then a cigar out on the bench near the front door.

The Reds are up 6-0 in the 6th inning at Wrigley.

Of course the Cubs have the highest scoring offense in MLB so that game is not over yet.

I’ll start a controversy here that may have me immediately removed from the forum. Catfish is the worst fish out there to eat. I’ll take something like blackened tilapia, home fried crappie, or stuffed grouper any day over catfish.

Haha!…I’m crazy about all of the varieties that you mentioned, Albert, but I really enjoys me some Catfish fillets more often than on occasion. I enjoy just about all the different types of fish, but I’d have to say that my favorites are Flounder and Cobia, the latter of which they call Ling in the Gulf States. I’ve yet to have a better meal from the saltwater than a freshly caught and cleaned Ling that was straight off the hook.

I’d say this is pretty much our optimum lineup with players available today. A possible coin flip between Pages and Pozo.

    Hey Pugs?

Not only was this a CCFF but it was also raccoon Friday. I had three raccoons down in my basement. They were in my little chimney access door that I had taped shut since a bird got in the house through there years ago. I about sh~t myself when I saw them. Fortunately the neighbor guys were around and they came up with gloves and a crate and got them out. Took them out into the backfield near some high grass and dumped them out. Hopefully mommy raccoon will now realize this isn’t a good place for little ones.

Cards need to win either tonight or tomorrow since DeGrom is going on Sunday. I will take a 3-3 road trip to Baltimore and Texas.

Leiter can be tough on righties but his May has not gone well. His walks can be a problem for him. The Rangers are 2-8 their last 10.

Happy Friday boys! Speaking of fish, I was off today and that means flyfishing for trout. I was predictably very successful. But I’m lazy and the last thing I want to do is carry around dead fish and than clean them. Catch and release.

And that is another example why you don’t put Burleson in the outfield. Our defense has gone to terrible the last week.
