With the Cardinals and Reds respectively only 4.0 and 2.5 games off the pace for the final NLWC berth, this is a crucial game for both teams. I expect roughly 10K to attend this high stakes late season contest…They’ll all be able to feel the intense crackle of a highly charged pennant race type atmosphere and I expect the ballpark to be buzzing with excitement!
I was wrong, Rat. The camera just panned around the grandstands and it looks more like about 7.5K for this thriller…
All jokes aside, I glanced at the standings a couple of days ago and Reds were within a game of a postseason berth. And I’ll also say that with more than a dozen games to play, they continue to have a legitimate chance. For that matter, so do the Cardinals…Haha! In any case, It’s always bothered me to see a team pack it in before they’re mathematically eliminated. I just don’t take well to a quitter.
Saw those “21’s” on the jersey’s and thought, “Are the Cardinals doing some sort of honor for Curt Flood?”
Then saw them on the Reds and put it together that it is for the great Roberto Clemente.

Technically, no, the Cards are not eliminated. Fangraphs currently give them a half-percent chance. So only a 99.5% chance they will fall short. Rah!
On the other hand, the Reds’ current Wild Card chances are a whopping 4.9%.
Yeah, 4.9% chance and they’re 2.5 games back with 13 games still to be decided. As for the Redbirds, the guys who dreamed up the concept of seemingly unlimited numbers of WC qualifiers got exactly what they wanted which is the illusion of false hope…Haha!
And the Redbirds tie it up with a 2 RBI double from Burleson. This is turning into an epic late season see-saw battle between two WC qualifiers…Down to the wire!
And the Cardinals pull out in front of the RBI base hit from Contreras…This is beginning to feel like ’11…
Not so far fetched, Bikemike. I’m sure you’re aware that Flood came over to the Cardinals from the Reds.
Awww, that little girl’s enjoying some real good ice cream that her dad bought her! As long as the kids are still having fun, that’s the most important thing.
Pretty exciting game tonight. I dont know, francona might not have it anymore. The seventh inning when he didnt have somebody warming up bugs me. I know it all happened with 2 outs and most managers for whatever reasons dont like having guys warming up if they atent coming in for sure or if the starter hasnt struggled yet. But to me in todays game, a guy makes it to the 7th, im already thinking hes at best done after this inning or is going to start struggling and sometimes when pitchers lose it, they lose it. Otherwise cardinals have been getting some nice hits but so have the reds.
Reds have really turned it on here in 9th. Cardinals have been smacking the ball and the reds pitchers are as bad as the cardinals pitchers so who knows.
If we only had a pen.
Letting Kitty walk in free agency is a prime example of why we do not have a decent bullpen. He pitched very well for us last season and this year doing the same for Baltimore and the cubs. How our brass could simply wave bye bye to Kitty without getting anything in return defies common intelligence and logic. Kitty has been a Godsend for our arch rivals, allowing just 11 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 24 and accruing 5 Saves in his 17 2/3 innings of labor.
The Reds may be only 2 games out of that final WC playoff berth , but will all of the other teams that are also vying to attain it, they may as well be 6 games out. They won’t make it.
