Looks like Quintana goes today for the Brewers.
Mikolas again. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if the Cards bring him back on a one year deal?
It has been almost four months since today's #stlcards SP Miles Mikolas picked up a road win, 5/17 at KC. Since then, he is 0-5 with three no-decisions and an ERA of 9.35 away from Busch.

Man, that game last night was a microcosm of the season for these two teams. We go up 6-1, and lead 7-4 going in to the ninth, and still lose. The Brewers seemingly do no wrong. They are charmed. But I tell ya, those guys take good at bats. They had a lot of swing and miss early facing Sonny, but they tend to put the ball in play.
Also what really hurt us is left-side defense. If we had Winn and Arenado at full speed, we would have won that game. Gorman is woefully weak defensively, and strikes out so much that we just do not get much value. And Saggese is a nice fill-in player, but his defense needs work.
Today could be a disaster throwing Mikolas out there.
I’m not sure disasters are possible with this team anymore. I mean, when misadventure and catastrophe are a common occurence, I’d say it’s the natural order of things. At one time, I would have placed last night’s game into the disaster file, but I was reasonably certain they’d find a way to demonstrate that a 5 run lead would never hold up. They once again proved their identity. Consistency is the key. The climate and atmosphere is natural and common to the area in which they currently reside.
The Brewers are leading a charmed life this season. I suspect their run will come to and end once the playoffs start. They are notorious playoff chokers.
The Cubs will dispose of the Padres in the wild card round then face the Brewers in the NLDS. That will be a barn burner but the Cubs will prevail sending Brewer fans home early again thinking about next year. You can take it to the bank.
Hopefully the Phillies then beat the Cubs in the NLCS. Please.
The Padres are only 2.5 games off the pace in the NLW and still have a legitimate chance win that division. But my guess is that it won’t matter and the Dodgers will win the NL Pennant. They’re still the champs.
Anyone taken a look at Helsley lately? In 14 IP’ed with the Mets he’s hovering at a 10.29 ERA without a solitary save. But the bad news is that the Mets won today to end an 8 game skid.
Nice win. Today the pen held up. Miles with a good start. as good as a 5 inning start can be that is. The little bats did the damage.
It’s always good to win. But this year, to what end? And yet, there are still people out there talking about a wild card. As Red said, hope is a dangerous thing.
But my guess is that it won’t matter and the Dodgers will win the NL Pennant. They’re still the champs.
I don’t think the Dodgers have it this year. I see them folding early in the playoffs.
Well we went 1-5 on this road trip. Better than 0-6 I guess.
Final homestand is coming up.
You may be right, gscottar. They may not even win the NLW, but I still think they have more talent up and their roster than the rest of the league. And proven talent has a strong tendency to rise to the occasion when the stakes are raised. In a couple of weeks we’ll find out who the genuine high stakes players are.
Only 14 posts on a Game Thread. I think we set a new record here, as 16 Game Thread posts was our previous dubious record for fewest posts at The Cardinal Nation. In the good ol’ days, we’d have 15+ din-din related Game Thread posts alone. Bloom only need check our inactivity around here to recognize that the natives are indeed restless and big time changes need to made. I used to think Oli had a 5% chance of being our 2026 skipper, but now I think those odds sit at under 1%.
