You gotta think that pitching short teams are eyeing Matz. I’m thinking that a guy that was untradable is moving in the other direction.

I think teams want to see if he can stay on the bump and off the DL first. He has been the model of inconsistency his 3+ years in STL. When he has been healthy he’s had mixed results.

You might be onto something if he returns to rotation and has some success in that stretch. If he does it’ll be hard for the brass to put him back into the pen. Remember we also are going to have to pay down something on his deal. Might be better for both sides of a deal if we hold on to him. That way the Cardinals don’t pay as much and the other team doesn’t have to take on much and give up as many prospects if indeed we get more than one.

3 ER and 5 IP is about a big of Victory as you can have with Mikolas these days.

True 858, but remember the home plate umpire hosed him on the strike 3/ball 4 call to Schwarber.

He’s been effective enough to have earned a chance to take a turn in the rotation. In a shade shy of 12 innings of work he’s yet to serve up a tater, but he’s allowed 11 hits. We’ll see what he does when he takes a turn on Wed. I hope he does good, but I’ve seen enough of him to be prepared for the worst.

Appears the strike zones are based on the over/under line, and ESPECIALLY at high leverage moments. MLB made it’s bed with gamblers, and if you use your eyes, it’s blatant.

Not at all a far fetched contention. Never underestimate the impact of cold hard cash. Especially when it’s connected to an organized gambling syndicate. Vito and Salvatore don’t like bad news…

A contention that GT’s confirm, from multiple forum members.

    Gotcha.

I don’t know if the umps are on the take or not but perhaps the challenge system will help some next year. It still won’t be full on robot umps though. MLB blames that on catcher’s insisting on retaining their pitch framing efforts. Weak excuse.

An automated strike system closes the umpire “loophole”, that they can, and are, currently manipulating.

I would have to guess that an automated balls/strikes system could be manipulated as easily as a slot machine. I’d also have to guess that a robo-ump could be bought off and corrupted quicker than the conventional human variety. And I’d also have to say that the robo-ump variety would be less likely to be susceptible to criminal prosecution…At any rate, I’m with jj on the theory that legalized gambling could certainly influence the outcome of any game on any given day.
