Hicks looking like he may be ready for Triple-A Memphis, though unlikely. He’s through three scoreless innings on 34 pitches against a lineup that includes Adam Eaton, Anthony Rendon, Bryce Harper, Matt Adams, Howie Kendrick, and Trea Turner.
Hicks’ final line – 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 6 GO’s. He threw only 41 pitches and looked more than a one-trick, late-inning relief pony today.
Cards fall, 4-2, as Ryan Helsley took the loss after Brebbia served up two solo homers. The offense managed just five hits. St. Louis is 16-12-2 on the spring.
I was very impressed with Hicks too, i was worried after the first time through as it looked like a lot of guys were on him but just late to me saying they hadnt figured out their timing on him yet, but he seemed fine in the 4th…
i think he is ready as a reliever right now…if his stuff plays well the first time seeing guys i think he is ready…maybe you wait to expose him to the league until the second half if you can so they get less chances to see him but he seems to be an immpact guy for a stretch run…
also that kind of outing against who he faced raises his profile a lot IMO…and it was already high…i’d hate to lose an arm like that but if the value is there to fix something else we need then so be it
We legitimately have a shadow rotation right now that wouldnt be bad…even if untested
Reyes, Flaherty, Gant, Hudson, Hicks….with all due respect to Gomber + Helsley and the rest of the gangI don’t think many teams have anything close to that kind of quality depth that is so close…the White Sox have some impressive guys on the cusp too but even they seem a bit more spread out
