He was brought up to AAA in ’21. He wasn’t overly impressive. He came back in ’22 and put up some really good offensive numbers. Then he was called up to the big club and wasn’t overly impressive. Could he have a repeat improvement in ’23 with the Cardinals like he did in ’22 at Memphis?
I have confidence Burly will become a fixture in somebody’s OF, not sure if it will be ours.
When Gorman was on the cusp and literally dripping with gooey hype slathered all over, I was concerned that he was a one dimension straight pull lefty of the type that MLB pitching and defense carve up. I saw another Matt Adams waiting to happen. That observation was not well received here on the forum. I don’t know if he can adjust. The rules changes affecting defensive alignment should help some. If he could spray it around pole to pole like fellow lefty Donovan he would be an item.
bling, actually, Burly seems to do a pretty good job trying to stretch the field. I do like Donovan’s approach. The Cardinals are fortunate to have some well rounded young hitters like Donovan and Edman.
Yeah, Burly I like. Nootbaar hits to all fields as well, although he gets pull happy sometimes, thinking he is Babe Ruth. I am thinking it will be O’Neill to go, if anyone, with Burleson stepping in and Walker lurking in the shadows.

Mo was confident enough in Carlson to trade Bader. Then Carlson faded and ended up all but benched. A strange turn of the worm. I wonder if he had an unreported injury maybe. I am thinking he will bounce back. My favorite master plan is to have five guys, Burleson, Nootbaar, Carlson, Walker and Yepez covering four lineup slots. The 3 OF and DH. Add Goldy and NA and that is 6 slots covered. Donovan and Edman is 8 slots. The new catcher is 9. That could be potent.
Carlson’s injury WAS reported. He spent part of September on the IL with a thumb injury. It could have affected his results before and after.

I believe there’s a decent chance Burleson ends up getting traded in the off season. His offensive performance at AAA and as a lefty bat makes him attractive to some teams.
Yeah, he also hit is first and only Big League HR while facing a position player…Hey, it’s better than a blank!
Burly’s a down and dirty ball player like Donovan. I hope they don’t trade him and give him a real chance in 2023. His off season program is impressive to firm up his body and improve his defense. He can really rake.
Burleson is one of those players that has more value to the Cards than what he might fetch on the trade market. IF Mozeliak does come up trading…. I hope that Burly is not on his list of who is available. What some fans don’t realize is the team we trade to has certain players that they absolutely want…. ex. Arozarena. Like some others, I believe that that is who the Rays wanted. I hope that Burly isn’t on any trade partner’s list either.
I never did understand why Burleson was kept down at Memphis almost for the entire year. What was he lacking, or were the Cardinals trying to hide him from other clubs? I don’t want to trade him until we find out what he can do at the major league level.
I hope the club gives Burly a good chance to make the big league roster this Spring. In general, I would like to see management stick with their own players more and slow down the prospects-for-vets transactions.
I know Nate will disagree with me on that and say that DeWitt wants to do that so he can pay less money in salaries. But recent history has shown this not to be the case. And the real reason I say that is it seems Cardinal system players are better big leaguers than projected a lot of the time. I have no metrics to prove that, it just seems to be that way from looking at guys around the leagues that were drafted by St. Louis.
