Just saw this on Yahoo News. Remember the little girl from Houston that was struck in the head by the foul ball off the bat of Albert Almora back around June? Apparently she has permanent brain damage. I didn’t read the article, didn’t feel like doing so.
I guess MLB has now said that ALL teams will extend the netting beyond the dugouts now.

Some of us hate the netting. It ruins the field box experience. Then again if I had a toddler at the game I’d make sure they’d be 99.9% protected.
Plus let’s see where any action would go. It’s pretty clear that baseball has it down where you you need to protect yourself at all times. Ticket stubs and signs… ect..
Will they do this at Spring Training too and the minors? You can’t just protect the MLB fans and say that is enough.
Worst injury i ever saw to a fan was at ST game in the 8th inning when no one was paying attention the field on the first base side and the batter swung late but made contact and it nailed this young man in the side of the face about 4 rows in front of me…i saw the ball come off the bat and tried to yell but it was so fast there was nothing anyone could do
I also saw bad one happen about 5 years ago at Roger Dean in ST, lady was fine, but again no one was paying attention to the field late in the game
MLB and milb should have mandated those nets at all parks years ago. Leaving it up to each team to implement was a joke. Having a few fans to view the game through a net is much better than people getting maimed or killed.
Let’s be honest. MLB teams resisted until the negative publicity over fan injuries mounted. Why? Because it cost them money with no revenue return.
If MLB wanted to do something to help the minors and fans, they could assist with the expense involved to put extended screens everywhere. But in many minor league cities, ownership of stadiums is not under MLB/MiLB direct control. That would make changes across the board difficult, but not impossible. Working together to improve minor league facilities – what a novel concept!
Nah. The heck with it. Just tell them what to do and contract the teams that don’t comply. See, more savings! 😉
Why I am not opposed to the netting, another step should be to make fans get off their damn cell phones and pay attention to what is happening around them, if they are sitting close to home plate.
