Rodriguez adjusted quickly at the A level in Peoria and has done so at AA but not as much. It appears that he is back on his heels with a lot of his swings, sometimes even to the point of having to step back to keep his balance. I would be interested what Brian and Kyle think about his swing.

There’s a podcast where 3 Springfield players are interviewed. One is Dohm. One Czinje (not sure about spelling). The last is Raniel Rodriguez In the interview with Rodriguez, Rodriguez says his catching isn’t good and he has to work on it. I still say that Bernal is our future catcher.

I can’t remember the name of the podcast, but it’s there in Rodriguez’ own words.

With any young undersized guy there is the risk he will reach a level where he is not facing teenagers anymore and is overpowered at the plate. Mayb he is experiencing that and so now will have to figure out what to do about it.

Seems most appropriate to remind folks that Rodriguez is still a teenager himself and will be until next January. Also, I didn’t know there are supposedly a lot of teenaged pitchers in the Midwest League or even in the FSL.

P.S. Rodriguez has an OPS of just under .800 in his Texas League intro of just 44 games. Why are some acting like he is failing?

I unglued my face from a stat sheet long enough to react to an eye test observation.

Oh, you can tell how old players are by looking at them? Amazing skill! 😉

His numbers at AA aren’t bad at all for a 19 year old. And since June 10 by my quick calculations hes hitting .307 with 5 2B, 7 HR, 12 BB, 26 K. Overall K% in AA is close to 27%, where it was about 19% in A+. So better pitching is getting more swing and miss, but for his age I’m not overly concerned about it yet based on track record.
