How do you think MO and Oli will handle the pressure of looking over their shoulders only to see Chaim Bloom and Yadier Molina waiting in the wings? Do those two who led the team to one of the worst records in its history have to be in it at the break to keep their jobs. I consider them to be a package deal.

I don’t see them as a package deal. Marmol’s status is far more tenuous. He has no contract for 2025, as Mo does. He also hasn’t announced his intent to step down following the 2025 season as Mo has. He doesn’t have 17 years as the owner’s right-hand man, etc…
Yes, welcome glo. Yeah, I see Mo here for the year. Ollie may not make it to June of the club gets off to a poor start. If the team plays mediocre, finishes around .500, he might get through the year but would probably not be brought back.
Only a strong season will earn Ollie a new deal.
I agree. Marmol has much more to worry about than Mo does. Mo seems to be plotting his departure on his own terms. He contract expires at the end of 2025 and he has indicated several times that he may step down or move into a different role at that time. I would be surprised if it happens before then.
Ollie, on the other hand, knows very well that the team had better win this year or he is out. To make matters worse the Cardinals schedule is front loaded with very tough teams. April could be ugly so Ollie had better hope we have a good month of May.
I don’t think being matched up with quality teams to start the season makes any difference. He’d better hope they’re at least at or above sea level during April. They were 9 under during April of the ’23 season and in hindsight the death knell tolled at 14 under during the first week of May. The season was over and done with way before June. They can’t wait that long in ’24 and I don’t think they will. If the first 5 or 6 weeks prove to be a poor start, I don’t think they’ll hesitate to provide some sort of ballast in the form of a managerial change. In fact, it wouldn’t floor me if something led to him being dismissed in ST’ing.
Odds are Ollie won’t be here after this year. It would have to be going deep into post season for him to get a new deal, and that is unlikely. And as we have said, he may not make it through the season. I would put higher odds on him seeing the pink slip in-season than on him garnering a re-up.
Ollie isn’t the only one whose fate is tied to the deadline. Mo has assembled many short term player contracts. I wouldn’t expect a managerial change before then. Down with the ship could happen.
It will take an efficient pen to be buyers. Currently, we have limited proof of efficiency from this group in high lev win scenarios, beyond two guys.

First, I will point out that I did not say I thought BDW leaving was likely. I do think it is more likely than Mo and Ollie going over the side together do to team performance. BDW is in his 80s, though, so it would not be shocking if he decides to back away.
I also think we don’t know too much about BDW3. Its been about 15 years since he replaced Lamping as President, and it seems like he’s been mostly in the background. I have no idea about his ‘love for the game’, but he’s been around it his whole life like his father. It seems clearly far different than was the case with Gussie and the next generation of the Busch fmily.
There is a lack of long term contract commitments, and there are several possible logical explanations for that. Having only 3 beyond 2025 might be not too out of character, if at all. There is also revenue stream uncertainty. There may be a desire to enable whoever follows Mo to not be tied up with contract obligations. If the DeWit family were wanting to exit ownership some time soon, then limiting long term obligations among players, staff and management would be a smart preparatory move. That last thought should be present in the background rather than on the table.
BDW III runs the entire business side of the team, including Ballpark Village. Just as Mo runs Baseball Ops. Very engaged and invested.
My point is that he is well prepared to take over for his dad when the time comes and that is what I predict will happen.
